Ok, I have went around and around as to how I want to put a camo theme onto a baby shower cake. (It's for my hubbys old roomate they are having "daddy" a cookout) It's this Sunday. I have debated using leaf cutters etc. So I decided to humble myself and ask for "HELP!" What are my option here and what's the best one? Also, any ideas for the cake is great. I have free reign (which is sometimes bad cause I can't make my mind up!) and I need it for about 80 people but I can also fill in cake with cupcakes. Thanks!

Sorry, but my brain is fried since I have been working on a baby shower cake do-dads for over a month now, BUT...the first thing that came to my mind was the baby butt cake that is so popular on CC but make the diaper a camo design. I think that would look so cute and not overdone with the camo. Sorry, beyond that, my brain is gone.

are you looking for actual hunting camo? like mossy oak and such? (some hunters are VERY specific and dont like the army camo with just differnt colors...)

I just did a cake, I hand painted the fondant. you can see it under my cakes. it was VERY easy. I am doing my son a hunting blind cake right now.

It turns out wonderful. I think the camo diaper would be cute. Because that is one of the main articles in the camo baby clothing line. ALL my kids had a wranger diaper cover in camo. even my daughter, hers had pink lace on it. icon_smile.gif

AUnt Mandy's, thats what I thought- and cake desire is sooo right- avid hunters want their camo SPOT ON! and OMG that is the CUTEST cake cakedesire!! ADORABLE!!

Auntmandys, another thought, if you can get a camo pattern like in the stationary section, you can take it to walmart and have them copy it on their edible paper for 8-10.00. I almost had to do that, but was pretty happy with my handpainting.

Noone could actually belive it was cake, or edible. icon_smile.gif

This is mossyoak pattern bride brought in. I ran it on gumpaste through my edible printer. I did it for a friend a few years ago and now at least once a month, because the guys love that it is real camo.

This photo shows edible image sheets coving a cake, with differnt animal prints, you could do the same with camo.

Jennifer,
That is awesome! I love it. I didn't know you could put gumpaste into an edible printer. Do you dry a sheet first? I don't have a printer, but now I want one more than ever! Thanks for the idea. I can't want to get a printer and try it!

Mandy,
We have been doing this for several years. A bakery in California showed this to us at a convention in 01 that we went to. They printed photos on gumpaste by using an edible printer. I thought it was a great idea. They used very thin sheets of plastic similar to the clear chopping boards you can find at walmart. I know that is not what they were, but that is what they reminded me of. We have tried several things, but find that heavy duty mylar works best. This is a product that we were using to masking designs when airbrushing.

Jennifer,
Sorry still a little confused. Do they roll out the gumpaste on these thin sheets of plastic? Is there a website they are ordered from. Better yet is there a tutorial. Sorry I am such a pain. I am very interested in this. I will post pics of the finished cake and cupcakes soon. Thanks to everyone!

Mandy,
We use a sheeter and roll the gumpaste out on the sheets with that. We used to hand roll before we had a sheeter. When I get back to work I will look up where we get the sheets and message back.

I was going to do the rump cake, but I let all the camo stuff psych me out and I decided to cut a fondant onesie. I posted pics, with all the info. The cake batter is camo also. Everyone seemed to like the cake. I got a ton of compliments. Which lets face it always feels nice! Thanks so much for all your help. I love this website! I couldn't get the photos to attach. However, I uploaded them to the site about 10 minutes ago, so you can view them in my photos. Thanks!
