Hi all!

I would like to try something different. I want to use oreo cookies inside a cake I am going to make. My question is how do I apply the cookies??

It will be buttercream icing as well. Do I smash the cookies until they are "sand" consistency and then mix in with buttercream and fill inside cake. Or, do I fill the cake with icing, then lay cookie "chunks" on top of the icing?

How would I do this? I have tried this with Reeses Peanut Butter chips before. I blended the chips until they were sand consistency and mixed it with BC icing. However, the icing became WAY TO stiff? Any suggestions

Thanks,

=)

I would make a batch of oreo truffles and just use that as the filling.

I use oreos as filling all the time - its one my most popular requests! I coarsly crush the cookies with a meat tenderizer and then stir in buttercream. I then spread immediately. If you wait too long and then try to stir and use later, the cookies will become soggy and make your filling a gray color instead of a pretty black and white.

I crush them coarsely too, but I mix mine into Rich's bettercreme so it's not too sweet.

A couple questions in regards to the responses I recvd.....

jenng1482 ...

You mentioned if I wait to long the cookies will become soggy. Will the cookies not get soggy anyway after they are in the cake and sitting until ready to be served?

pattycakesnj ....

What is a Oreo truffel?

Thanks

I crush my oreos very finely, and then mix with bc, and use it as a filling, super yummy! And I have never had them become soggy, I also use the oreo bc as a binder for cake balls, and those little things are addictive.

I like using the Costco Mousse recipe from this site using Oreo instant pudding mix. Light and fluffy with a hint of Oreos.

Just in case jenn doesn't answer, yes they will get soft eventually, but I think she means that when you spread it in the middle it will turn gray from the cookies being so soft and breaking down in the frosting when you spread it. If you spread it right away, the cookies aren't soft enough to break down into the frosting...more of a look thing. HTH

do you crush the oreo as is or do you take out the filling first?

If you look under recipes here on Cake Central and search "Oreo Filling", you'll find a few recipes. The one I tried is actually called Oreo Filling and it uses marshmallow fluff among other ingredients. It does not need to be refrigerated, which is a bonus, and the cookies don't become soggy at all. Neither does the cake! I just chopped the cookies coarsely, with the icing still in the cookies! Very tasty, but I found it needed a little more vanilla and about a 1/2 tsp. butter flavor. I just tasted some leftover from the fridge and it tastes even better today than two days ago when I made it.

Have fun!

I like the following:

2 boxes of jello oreo Cookies-N-Cream Pudding
1 cup milk
2 cups rich's bettercreme (or heavy whipping cream) whipped to medium peaks
1/2 bag of oreo cookies (crumbled)

Mix the pudding and milk. The fold it into the whipped cream. Then fold in the cookies. This is DELICIOUS and much lighter than using buttercream. It really lets you taste the Oreos and the bits of cookies that are in the pudding mix stay very crunchy!

Thanks for all the replies!!

I want to stay away from any receipe that requires milk or cream. I do not place my cakes in the fridge. Any filling that does not need to be left in the fridge will work for me. I will do a search on this site in regards to the fillings.

Thank you all so much!

I personally do not, I finely crush them with the filling still in.

For a yummy unique filling Ive gotten the mint or pb filled oreos and mixed it with chocolate bc. The mint is my favorite icon_smile.gif

ladyk333, thanks for the info about the recipe using marshmallow creme. I'll have to look that up and try it. People are always asking for the cookies and creme cake, the one with heavy cream and I just cringe when they ask for it, because it has to be refrigerated, and I always feel that I can't take too long decorating it, or the whipping cream will start to break apart, plus always having to move things around in my fridge to make room for the cake. Hopefully the marshmallow creme will be the answer.

I used the Costco Mousse recipe w/ vanilla pudding (couldn't find cookies and cream) and just broke up some oreo's and mixed it all together. The cookies get soft in the mousse. It was soooo good thumbs_up.gif
