I have a wedding cake to make soon and the bride wants the color Lapis, which is a deep purple, maybe like eggplant. How do I get this color in fondant or buttercream?

Ok...so if anyone is interested...in answer to MY OWN question, to achieve this color you would start with violet and add black. I guess I'm just a bit supprised that I got no response on this but I still love you guys.

At David's Bridal Lapis is similar to eggplant.

It's almost like they are intentionally messing with people.

i realize that david's bridal is popular with many brides, but their terminology is wrong.  maybe it would be best if the bride brought in a fabric swatch.  computer screens can also have color variations, so that they don't always show the correct color.

I agree. Lapis is a beautiful BLUE, not purple. And your best option is to have the bride show you in person the shade she wants. Not an emailed or texted photo, but in person.​

Lapis lazuli is a gemstone, usually a gorgeous deep blue. I've heard the colour of something described as lapis lazuli, but I've never heard of the colour 'lapis'.

That's what I'm thinking, maybe lapis is different from lapis lazuli.

typing the word lapis into google or a gemsite, brings up the picture of lapis lazuli.

aubergine is the french word for eggplant and is used as a the name for eggplant purple in cosmetics, fashion etc.

i do think that, as was mentioned above, the best bet is to get a fabric swatch from the bride.  actually fabric swatches for any colors of wedding would be easier to work from.

no need to argue with or confuse bride, just go with the swatch.....i.e. "pink" can be anything from a pinky coral to bubblegum or very pale pink............
