I've seen many cakes in the galleries which use led lights. I think it's an awesome affect. I'm wandering where are these purchased and how to put them in a cake without messing up the light. (i don't even know what these little lights look like to try to find them.) I'll be doing 2 transformers cakes this week and would love to use lights in both of them. Such neet ideas on this site. Thanks for your help,
Amy

Check at your local hobby store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby, I can almost guarantee they will have them. Around Christmas, they can be found at every single store, lol. It would be a great time to stock up at the $1 Store icon_biggrin.gif

Does anyone have any pictures of these lights that can be used? We will be visiting the States soon, and I would like to be able to buy some, but don't quite know, what to look for. I need a visual please

Oh ok, so they are strings? Are there any smaller individual ones, that one could use as Eyes etc?

There are smaller counts available... I have seen a two-count, can't find a photo right now. Here is a three-count that I found categorized as floral LEDs. Today, I was at my local hobby store and they had some single LEDs on stick that you put in your garden to mimick the look of fireflies. If you are up to the challenge, you could take stick off and make your own housing for single lights. Just a though...

Look on ebay. The set that LaBoulangerie uploaded a picture of, can be bought on ebay. I was looking for some more that I used at Christmas in a centerpiece. Mine had a transparent battery compartment, but the white one, as shown, is being sold on ebay. HTH

I used single LED lights on the runway on this cake. I did not put them on unitl I delivered the cake. I turned them on and then took some fondant and covered the metal parts, to make food safe, and to make them look like runway lights. I got them at Michael's in the wedding section.

I bought mine online, they were like $2 and all you had to do is twist them to turn them on. They were good for only 8 hours though but for what I needed them for they worked great! (I just googled LED lights)

I used single white/blue/red lights that work off watch batteries. I bought them at Walmart in their Wedding section. White is the only color I can find now. I used them for headlights and stage lights.

I also bought some blinky light rings for an ambulance:

You can also purchase them at smartyhadaparty.com. They have all kinds of lights and we got some for use at my daughter's wedding to go around her cakes. They really looked very nice.

I also think the single LED should somehow be "wrapped" because I suspect these light are not intended to be food safe.

I just did a fire truck and couldnt find any lights locally that were red. I went to Michaels and they had white LED lights in their wedding section. So my hubby came up with the idea of sticking a mini balloon over the top of it. Worked like a charm! (I also stick bubble straws so that its not in the actual cake!!

single LED lights can be purchased online. No wires. Blinking or non blinking are available. They can also be purchased at stores like Party City.

AI just bought a pack of 12 at party city. They are called balloon lights. One time use only, last for 8 hours.
