What does everyone charge to make cupcakes fro customers? I never make them so I am not sure how much to charge for these. I have to make 36 cupcakes. They will be a 2 tier cupcake covered in chocolate and decorated in chocolate. Any feedback will help. I was thinking about $125.00. Is that too much?

I charge $20.00/each for mini cakes like that! So I would charge $720 for those!! they are a total pain to make too!!

Those are beautiful. I personaly would charge $8 each for those so that would be $288 for 36.

Mini cakes like that have at least a minimum of $8/each... haven't covered one in chocolate, but would imagine that the price would be higher, so at least $10/each.

That is not a cupcake anymore once you are decorating it like a cake. Your pricing is right inline for a cupcake with decorations.... but this is a mini cake (in my opinion)

Making mini cakes absorbs all of your time! They are a pain in the @##s!! Really, you should charge enough to make up for your time AND your frustration working on those.
Just make one, and clock your time. You will be surprised! It will instantly raise your price!!!

I think my $20 price tag comes after I made 20 of these lil' buggers and sold them for $10 a piece and spent WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY more time than I EVER would have wanted to on them!!!

If she doesn't want to spend more than $200, then she's going to have to settle for regular decorated cuppies. You should absolutely NOT do the design above for less than $720.

To start with, that's certainly NOT a cupcake.

She did tell me that the bakeries wanted over $400.00 for them . She did say if it can be covered with the chocolate and then decorated in buttercream frosting. She is calling me as her last resort and wants to keep the cost down.

She can tell you what her budget is, but she shouldn't be the one determining how you price your work. IMO

It's not your job to make her champagne dreams happen on her beer budget. Either she has to pony up the money or settle for a different thing. Mini cakes (which is what that design is, NOT a cupcake) are a huge pain in the patookie and take a lot more time to do than do regular sized cakes or cupcakes. Tell her what you CAN do for $200 and if she doesn't like it, too bad, so sad.

She's calling you as a "last resort"? o-kay....... hmmm. I wouldn't touch these little pains in the a**'s, at all. For any amount. So much harder and aggrivating than any cake.
Explain to her about the time that goes into these and she will pay dearly for that. Maybe she will opt for something more realistic on her budget. Don't let anyone tell you or make you feel as though you are their "last resort". You want to be their FIRST choice. Period.

I recently got an email from someone looking for 10 of these for a teens party....I told them 200 bucks! haven't heard from them, but boy am I glad I don't have to make 10 of those puppies!!!

make one of them, and then tell her how much you'd charge for 36!!! Probably will cost her $3, 600 !!! lol Seriously, you'll want to charge $100/each after you make 1, they're such a pain!!!

LOL KHalstead, but I hear you. The last ones I did I charged $16 each and I earned every penny.

Frankly, when I heard the words, "last resort" it would have taken every ounce of tact in me not to hang up on her.

I just showed my husband that picture and I told him what the lady wants to pay and the first thing he said was "yeah, good luck on that one!" Even he knows that that picture looks worth more then 6 dollars.

I agree with everyone else.. I wouldn't charge no less than $100 per cake. They are definitely harder than regular cakes and you should let her know that. And if she can't afford it like others have said then she needs to change her design plan.
