Does anyone know where I could buy a gumpaste spray of Lilac flowers. I niece wants Lilacs on her wedding cake. Or any ideas on how to make them?

Here's a start, even though it's not gumpaste http://www.wilton.com/technique/Lilac

There's a tutorial in the April/May 2004 American Cake Decorating magazine. I used it to create the lilacs on the purple cake in my photos. A word of warning, those two lilacs took forever to make, but I think they looked good in the end. Good luck

I agree lilacs take forever to make, but they are so worth it.

when i do them, i cut a ton of small wires (takes about 150-200 blooms to make one sprig) about 2-3inches long, then a small ball (i use a bead mold to keep a uniform ball 6mm) of gumpaste in a light purple color, form a tier drop on the wire with the point down, then using small scissors snip a 4 petal flower on the rounded part of the tier drop. flatten each petal with your fingers and set aside to dry, arrange the petals in varying stages of openness. For the blooms that don't open just snip and leave the ball pressed together. Not sure without looking at a photo, but i think each sprig has groupings of 4 blooms then they are wired together to make a larger flower.

Very time consuming. But very pretty flower.

Is there a lilac cutter or would the hydrangea cutter work?

The hydrangea cutter would be too big for a lilac, but you really only need a pair of small scissors to make the bud. Or you if want you can find a small 4 petal flower cutter would work.
