Went to deliver a cake this morning. I spent hours making the fondant purse cake topper. I turn a corner and hear something fall - the purse fell off the ttp of the teirs, cracking the purse handle and smashing the buttercream covered tiers as it toppled down. I have to deliver the cake today - the party starts in 2 HOURS!!!

OMG - Help me ~ icon_cry.gif

Do you have any all ready made flowers like Royal icing etc..You could use those to hide the spot where the purse fell on the tiers...Break the purse handle off entirely and make it a clutch...Try and smooth out the BC as best you can.I always travel with those items separately and place them on when I deliver the cake!

I usually don't add toppers either until I arrive at the destination. I agree.. cover it up as good as you can with additional flowers. Good Idea with making it a clutch!!

I hope it all turns out good for you... I know how you feel... it's the worst thing... but we always somehow manage to save the cake... so you will do just the same... think outside the box... go abstract if u have to lol...

Not the best cake but as good as I could do. Thank goodness for RI flowers! I had to re-frost the whole side and top, re-write the message, and do a new border. Turned out okay - but I felt bad enough I didn't charge. Picture attached... okay, was suppose to attach - it was larger than the 800x800 pixels I have no idea how to make it smaller?!?!?!?

to resize I bring the picture up in the same program I would use to crop the picture (mine is mircosoft office picture manager) and choose resize and than make is smaller until the pixels read below 800x 800.

hope this helps!

I was wondering the same thing. I would have given a discount but I would not have given it to them free of charge.

You didn't charge for the whole cake or just the purse?

yeah - you read it right. I didn't charge. It was my babysitter and I felt so awful because she wanted this lavish thing for her friend. Will I make another one - no; I feel so crumby (get it - crumb -y!)

What did your babysitter and her friend think of the cake? I bet they both loved it, but I am also guessing you also told them about what happened didn't you?

Your cake is lovely. But, I still would have charged something...I too have let my guilt over one of my cakes not being perfect get the better of me though. You have to do what you need to to make yourself feel better about the whole thing, but it still stinks not having a least your out-of-pocket expenses recooped.

If that was your fix up cake.....(which is fantastic) Your orginial cake must have been super fantastic.......you did a great save and YOU SHOULD HAVE CHARGED SOMETHING.....I understand where you are coming from.....I did one cake, my first fondant cake with the diamond pattern.....I didn't charge them anything either.....It was not up to my expectations and felt I let the couple down.... but I even got referrals from it. Now I will offer a discount or a free small cake at a later date...
