So since I will be making my cakes from home, I thought of Home Slice, A taste of home in every slice. I chose it this morning as a joke because my brother is into the whole ebonics thing and i called him and he said that it would actually be a really great idea. What I'm wondering is, do you guys think people would take me seriously or not? lol. The name is really starting to grow on me.

It's cute! Great for marketing to 16-35 year olds which is a nice market.

I like the name, but in this town "Home Slice" is a pizza place.

It's a cute thought, but the first thing that came to my mind was pizza, too.

It's cool, but I also immediately thought of pizza...

It should have the word cake, sweet, dessert...something that relates, otherwise it's just too broad, in my opinion...

I'm sorry but I don't really like it because "Home slice" doesn't mean cake or pizza to me, I really don't know what it means if I heard it. As far as cake most people call it a "Piece of cake" not a "slice of cake", even though we do slice it.

I thought of "Home Sweet Home" just as a quick suggestion and that doesn't even say cake/sweets to me unless there is a tag line or change it to "Home Sweets Home".

Remember to think like a non-cake person. I think of it like this, if someone riding in their car saw a billboard/sign with just your name would they know what it was about?

I like it for a pie shop...one that has a large selection...where one can go in and order just a slice (bonus would be to be able to get a whole one to take HOME)

You could call it "Homie slice" and if anyone gives you any trouble you have Homie The Clown come out and beat them with a cake spatula. "Homie don't play dat" icon_biggrin.gif

I like the idea of a hip name, but I'm with the others who say it doesn't "scream" cake.

It's cute, but it could lend itself to be pizza or pie. Also, what if you were to move into a shop--would it still translate well? It's like when you name a kid you have to think of all the possibilities icon_smile.gif

It doesn't say cake or desserts to me. My mind goes more to the "Home" aspect in the name when it would seem that the cake/dessert aspect should be drawn upon more. Just my thought.

The name is okay - I'm not too sure about the tagline... I know what home feels like (warm, safe, relaxed), but what does home taste like? Dust bunnies, bathroom cleaner and lost socks?

Cheers,
Cris.

I'm afraid I get immediate images (visual and auditory) of "skater boyeez"
hangin with their peeps, throwing their hands around as they holler "yo, yo, yo, what up home slice?"

Probably not the image you were going for icon_lol.gif

I have mixed feelings on it...

If you are opening your shop in an area with lots of young people (hipsters, college students, ect) and they will be your primary target clientele, then the name is perfect.

If you are trying to go for weddings and an older Suburbia clientele (SAHM/Soccer Moms, folks who have upper 5 digit/6 digit incomes and the like) then the name will not connect.

My first thought was pizza and would probably walk right by it if it was a strip mall storefront, but I would so go to a bakery/coffee house with that name if it was in the middle of the hip downtown area.

Just my .02...

It's perfect.

If there is a Home Slice pizza place anywhere nearby, just add what makes you different...

Home Slice Cake Shop
Home Slice Bakery
Home Slice Cakery
Home Slice Cakes
Home Slice Cafe

Cute, clever, catchy, modern, and it shows a lighthearted sense of humor. Pair it with an awesome cake logo, and you're good to go. Trust me, after you're up and running, you will consistently get comments on what a cute business name it is. And people will remember it.

Or, you could go with something that makes everyone happy, and disappear into the void of mediocre cake shop names that all sound the same, which in my opinion, says nothing for the nature of a unique product, and even less for the supposed creativity of the owner.

Long before I opened up shop, when I first googled my chosen business name, you know what came up? Porn. And lots of it. I shared this dilemma with the professor and students in a college marketing course I was taking and they all laughed and said it was a great name, and I should go ahead with it. I guess I'm lucky that they gave me the confidence to go ahead with what I really wanted. You know what comes up now when I google my business name? My business... and lots of it!

If it feels like your name, and it feels like you, then do it! thumbs_up.gif

That's exactly what I thought. I feel that in a short time this will be an 'old' expression. Imagine if you'd set up a business called "WAASSSSUUUUUP?" because everyone was saying that 5 years ago?!
