I cannot for the life of me come to a decision as to what size tiers I want to use for my son's Baptism cake. SOOOO silly since the guest of honor an infant and does not care in the least. Anyway, which do you think looks nicer:
Round: 9" & 12"
or 6", 8", 10" ?
I plan to make chocolate cake on the bottom tier and chocolate chip pound cake for the top tier(s). There will be a gumpaste cross standing on the top tier and tappits "God Bless Ryan" either on the top tier (if 9") or along the cake board if the top is 6".
Thanks for "listening". Not sure why I'm incapable of making such simple choices these days .
Oops and apparently I'm having trouble spelling, the title should be "thinKing" lol. I blame it all on sleep deprivation.
I like 9 and 12 but the other way is really pretty too. Just more work for you cause then you have to decide on an extra design for the extra tier which causes even more thinking...lol
Which design do you think of first? Based on your description it sounds like your original thought was the 9 & 12. It sounds beautiful.
Thanks so much!!! I'll go with the 9 & 12. I'm going to cover in fondant, quilt the side of one with sugar pearls at the intersections and put a bow on the side of the other (now to decide which tier gets which design....); not sure if I'm going to have cakes be pale blue or white, or one of each. ugh. something is wrong with me, I am way too indecisive.
A 9 and 12 " will look great. I would make the decision of whether to do a 2 or 3 tier based on the number of people to feed.
Thanks. I'm using the Wilton Party serving chart, the 9-12 gets 64 servings, the 6-8-10 gets 60 servings, only a 4 serving difference, so either size is fine for us.
I hate making cakes for myself...I can never decide what I am going to do and I'm constantly changing my mind. Then I get a brilliant idea just before I fall asleep and then I'm up all excited about the new design!
I'd go with the 9 & 12, too!
I agree.. 9/12! When I did my son's cake last week It took forever to narrow down what I wanted to do exactly!! For me, its the stress of everyone eating the cake at YOUR party. Sounds weird I know.. but I hate being around when my cake is being served!
Thanks so much for the advice. I did the 9" & 12" and was really happy with it. I wish I had a better picture, but I was rushing around and the lighting wasn't very good. Anyway, here's a link to it:

Thanks, tarheelgirl. I always get so nervous being there for my cake as well. Everyone loved it and the compliments were flooding in at the party, really boosts my ego . I look and see the mistakes (like the air bubble on the left side of the top tier), but then I find anyone who doesn't make cakes isn't looking for the flaws.
It's wonderful. I love the addition of the little crosses instead of pearls at some of the spots where the lines intersect. (Not sure what that place is called!)
