Hi,
does anyone know how the piping on the side of this cake is done? is it a stencil / freehand / imprint (and piped over) ???

it was done by Carries Cakes - don't know if she's on CC or not... a friend has asked me to do something similar to the sides of this cake.

TIA

It looks like a stencil to me, it appears to be a raised design when looking at the side view.
Check out the site culinary stencils for ideas and stencils, you may find a pattern that is something similar there.

I agree, it looks like stenciling...Ive done some work in that for practice and Ive used BC, thinned and Ive also used RI...lately.

As to the stencils, I go to michaels in the art dept and I buy the vinyl stencils for cheap with my coupon. You can also airbrush.

Just make sure your stencil doesnt move once you place it on the cake or that you push it into the cake.

definitely a stencil.

Here is a cake I just did using a peony stencil I got for $.25 at AC Moore!!

It took me literally 3 minutes to decorate this cake, soooooooooo fast!

thanks guys... the link to those suppliers had exactly what I need... unfortunately they are both in the US and take up to 2 weeks to get them out to me... at $40 US (plus the cost of buying the stencils)... now I just need to find someone in Oz that has these magic little things!
