I just recieved an order for an accoustic guitar and I am wondering what is the best way to make one. I looked in the templates gallery and there was only a template for an electric guitar. Any help would be so appreciated!
Thanks!!
Janice
Look up pics of guitars on-line and think it out. That's an easy shape and who needs a template for something that simple? Cut it freehand.
I didn't read through the thread but hopefully there is some good advice in here for you,

What's simple for you may not be for another.
Karmastew, I am not good at cutting freehanded. I get things out of wack and not always even on both sides.
Thanks Jadedlogic, I will have to take a look!!
When I did an electric guitar for my nephew, I kept that picture up all the time and had its shape etched in my brain. I then started drawing it on paper. By the time I was ready to carve the cake (a few weeks later), I was ready to "draw" it w/ my knife. Janicecold, you might just find you're able to freehand, if you work it in stages like I did. Good luck!!
If you have Microsoft Publisher, save a picture of a guitar on your computer, open the program, set it up to make a poster, and insert the picture. Size the picture according to the size you'll need (Publisher has a ruler that shows on the screen).
Print out the poster, tape the pages together, cut out the guitar shape, and voila! you have a template for carving.
I've done this quite a few times, it's actually fairly simple but most people don't think about it because Publisher isn't that popular anymore.
Thanks Cheatize, I never thought of doing that. What I also did was go to Bulk Barn and went to the pans they rent out and asked them if they minded if I trace it!! They said no problem plus I was buying some other items so that might have helped with them saying yes!!LOL
You're welcome! Carving scares me, too; so a template is a huge help. I hope this gives you many beautiful carved cakes in the future!
I used two large round cakes for mine. I cut a portion of them off and put them together to make it then cut out the neck and added it to it. Don't know if that makes any sense, but imagine having the O and cutting part off to make it a C. Do that twice and put the cut parts together, that will give the basic shape you need.
