Just wanted to see if there was still a theme for the month for cookies? I have not been able to bake for a while and am starting to work on new projects. I liked doing this before and was interested to see if it was still being done.

I've never heard of it, so I'd be interested in the answer, too!

I have never heard of this either. Was it like the cake contest? I would be interested also.

I never participated ,but there was a monthly cookie club.It stopped last fall .I suppose ever one was busy over the holidays. It was fun to see who posted their cookies first for that months theme.

The "Creative Cookie of the Month" club goes back quite a ways, actually. I know that bonniebakes used to be the administrator for the thread. The rules were simple: A topic was chosen, and everyone was encouraged to post their cookies in that forum thread that conform to that topic. The cookies had to be new designs not previously posted, and it was asked that you not post the cookies to the CC gallery until after that month. The first person to post their cookies usually got to pick the next month's theme.

It was a fun thread! The problem is that while everyone agreed it was a lot of fun, and everyone loved seeing the photos, fewer and fewer people would post. Life gets busy....

So to start a new Cookie of the Month Club, all you need is an administrator and a theme! There are a lot of new decorators on the site would probably enjoy seeing this oldie but goodie!

if enough people are interested, I'd be happy to get it going again... I loved it, but Gemini is right... fewer and fewer people were adding photos to the thread, and it just sort of fizzled out....

I think I'd enjoy trying it, but I'd have to find something to do with those cookies every month -- otherwise, my DH and I would have to eat them all ourselves.

I would enjoy doing the cookie on the month it sounds fun. I love the cake contest but that takes a lot of time for a cake.

OK, then let's get it going again!

For the first month, lets see if we can come up with a theme... from then on, the first person who posts a picture for the month gets to choose the theme for the next month (I'll still start the threads each month, the theme "chooser" will just rotate).

What are your ideas for an April theme?

Sometimes when I want to test out a new design/or just play around I'll make up only 2 or 3 cookies in a particular design and then I bag them up and put a label and everything on them and I literally hang them on the wall in my "cake supplies room" (Making sure to keep them out of direct sunlight) I've still got one of the dracula cookies from the cookie cutter tutorial lol and it still looks the same.

Anyhow, the reason I do this is that I can show the ACTUAL cookie to customers as an example, sometimes it's the deciding factor in them placing an order. It also let's me showcase cookies that people might not ordinarily think to order on there own!

So THATS what you can do with the cookies....nobody said you had to make 4 dozen lol......just make a couple and hang on to them.......that way nobody gets hurt(fat) lol.

great idea, Khalstead - I really like that!

I usually didn't do a whole batch for the monthly theme, sometimes I save a little bit of dough that's extra when I make dough and freeze it. Then when I want to try out a new design, I can use that dough.

But if I have enough dough... and I don't care if the cookies are all a particular theme, I do a whole bunch and give them to neighbors, post office, fire station or police department near me.

I'm hearing a lot of birds chirping and frogs/toads croaking when I'm out for a walk lately. Would either of those work for a theme?

I used to have a monthly thread where we'd pick a theme and you could use any medium (cake, cookie, candy) to do your interpretation of it. People just quit participating so we quit doing it. I loved it, but people didn't want to 'get involved' very much. icon_cry.gif It was a lot of fun while it lasted.

To kick off the restarting of the TOTM cookie club...how about a free for all...no theme inparticular...but it has to be an unposted-in-the-gallery-already design (although, I think one should be able to recreate/interpret something they've seen in the galleries...just it has to have been made specifically during the time of the TOTM)( and IMOO, don't think ones that were made before April should be shared here either)?

ohh I just made some cross cookies, and haven't posted them yet..would that count? They were made in April..........they're not really anything spectacular though, just some plain ol' fondant covered crosses w/ impressions on them.

I can't wait..........I really love making cookies and people don't order them NEARLY enough for my liking!! lol

Who is picking the theme? Ya'll don't be tellin' whatchall got already...that means, if that theme was picked, ya'll are sure to post first and 'win' next month's theme choosin' spot.

(let's pretend like no one said anything)

If you guys want me to relaunch the TOTM, I would be happy to. I know we have some new faces here lately and they might like it. If you guys want it, I will start a new thread, post the old 'rules' and start the process. What say you? Aye or Nay?

Oh, ok, I was the creator of the original TOTM so was just offering to start that one up again, but someone can sure start a new one. It's definitely fun if you can get people going on it!

I am glad that so many people have showed an interest in this. What about Spring as a theme since we are at the beginning of the season? I think it would be interesting to see everyones interpretation of the theme. I cannot wait to see the theme so I can get baking and decorating. Thanks everyone for showing renewed interest in this.
