it infuriates me that ppl say my husband/wife would kill me spending that amount of money on just cake. Ok so theyre ok with you spendin 300.00 to rent a room for 2hrs to let your kids jump on inflatable things that you do not keep. whatever ...
Im sorry i know times are very hard right now but if you can spending that amount of $$ on a building to just let your kids play then i dont want to hear it its just cake.

I mean I completely understand if the cake is out of your price range just say im going to pass , Im not going to be able to order or thank you for your time but when you say its just cake ahhhhhh. If it was just cake you could just do it yourself then.

I mean this woman wanted a 3D superhero upper torso cake to feed 30-40 apparently my price was too high even when i think it was way to low to begin with.

Thanks for reading, im sure others on here have ran into the same phrase before and it not being just me hearing it.

Don't take it personally. She evidently could not afford it and tried to make you feel like it was nothing. People do not realize how hard it is to decorate cake. A lot of thought and planning go into those works of art and people think that pricing is high when you go into Walmart/Sam'sClub and spend peanuts on a cake that is made and frozen in China then shipped in for the final touches.
Don't be upset. Just consider the source. Let is go.

I know what you mean. I usually get " I get back to you" and then they never do. I live in an area with very, very wealthy people and then a lot of middle working class. And guess what, most of the I'll get back to you come from the very wealthy towns (and I am talking towns that the cheapest house is a million) Most of my business comes from the middle working class. I guess that is why the rich keep getting richer. LOL

No, I totally understand! My Dear Sis, who knits and crochets, was complaining this weeked about people wanting to order hats from her and wanting to pay less than the cost of the yarn. I told her I related because I get the same thing with my cakes, yet she called me a "rip-off" because I would dare think to ask for more than $25 for any kind of cake. thumbsdown.gif

What kills me is she does know how long I spend on my cakes, and I know she has gone to local bakeries and spent upwards of $36 for a dozen cupcakes. It tickes me off. icon_mad.gif

This is probably a complaint in any craft. I learned this lesson years ago regarding silk flower arrangements. My friend was doing them to sell at weekend hobby shows. I couldn't believe how much she was charging for arrangements but then she explained to me how much she spent on flowers for each one! Add something for her skills/time and then I could see the value.

I opened some eyes this weekend when I delivered an ornate shower cake and people were asking how much is cost and the hostess was happy to divulge the cost ($250). Their eyes got big and they said, how long does it take to make a cake like this...and I answered, well, I started with making the name plates and booties two weeks ago and worked on a different section of it over those days then the past two days have devoted 9 hours to finishing this cake. Suddenly $250 didn't seem like so much. LOL! Suddenly it was not "just cake"

No it isn't "just cake". A friend of mine decided to make her daughter's birthday cake this year instead of having me do it. I got a call from her last night begging me to do her cake for Saturday because things weren't working out for her. icon_lol.gif She was doing a practice run and found out pretty quick just how much is involved in decorating a cake. She also told me that I could have all of her gadgets and pans that she bought to do the cake with because she was NEVER going to try to decorate another cake. She said "now I know why these things cost so much". Of course I'm just charging her the cost of ingredients plus I'm getting some new pans and cutters out of the deal. thumbs_up.gif

On another note. I don't understand the people that will pay a large amount for the party location or pay to have an elaborate party and then want to pay $20.00 for a cake to feed 40 people.

wow, im not alone, I learned this awhile back ppl thinking its just cake and if they can run to WM and grab one how hard can it be to make. But today for some reason it just had it. I just want to grab them through the email and shake them. But alas i cannot icon_wink.gif, but for every one who says that its just cake, you get 2 that are willing to pay for what they want and what its worth!!
