I am going tobe making a cake for Hispanic Heritage Dinner at my daughter's school. The dinner is for families as well. I am attaching the theme for this year's celebration. Any ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

This year's theme is: Hispanic Americans: Strong and Colorful Threads in the American Fabric[/i]

mmm, pretty! You could take the picture to a grocery store's bakery and have them print the image into edible paper and then place on the cake. Or you could do a two tier cake and place the picture in a steady back like a cardboard making nice an pretty like a picture frame and use it as the cake topper....

I think an quilt would be great. with symbols from the hispanic culture. You can take colors from that pic and use them to make you quilt squares.

MariaLovesCakes and susanmm23...those are some great ideas! I love this year's theme. Unfortunately, we do not have a place that can scan the image for me...we live in Germany, so it is difficult getting cake supplies here.

Maria, how exactly like a picture frame?

If I use the quilt idea, what should I use for the symbols? I have never used colorflow nor fondant.

Mmm, lets see... I saw it somewhere and made a picture of it...

The person probably (because she didn't say it) use the picture, made a color copy, attached it to coarboard cut to fit the picture, then iced around it with buttercream or best Royal Icing a shell border or any border you want to design and let it dry. Then you can place it on top of the cake.

If I find the pic, I will send it to you...

Hi Lisa,

Could you not make some traditional hispanic cakes such as a tres leches, and just use the colors as a guide for frosting colors? That may be more simple than what you are looking for, but people may enjoy having some traditional hispanic cakes and you would have a little less work!

I just sent you an email with a couple of pictures... I didn't post them here because I didn't make them...

The second one is the one where the picture was made to look like a picture on a frame...

Its really pretty!

Berta,

Actually, I am going to make a tres leches cake, but they want a decorative cake for all. I have some Panamanian and Puerto Rican friends who are also going to make two of their's. We are having a taste testing type event and the cake is like an official one. The colors I'm going to use will be the colors represented in the poster as suggested by Susan.

Everyone, please keep the suggestions coming. I would like to incorporate different ideas.

Maria, gracias! The pictures you sent and ideas are great!

When I read your forum, I searched and searched for a specific photo that came to mind.. And I found it.. The cake was made by mouth here from CC..
This was made for 4th of July... But could be done the same just changing the theme and colors..
Being some things are limited to you in Germany, this could be fairly easy.. Make the cookies to resemble some people with the colorful clothing.. (icing) and maybe you could make a pancho out of MMF and set it on the side of the cake.. Hope this helps.. Good luck!

briansbaker...thank you so much for that idea! Wow, there are so many to choose from. I hope you all keep the ideas coming. I need to give them several to choose from. There is a committee making the decisions as to what type of cake to make.

I did a Spanish dancer on a cake before. (It was a cake divided into two pictures for two sisters, so only one half is the Spanish dancer.) I'll post it.
