I tried making gumpaste flowers for the first time and they are coming out okay. Just wondering if there is anyway to give them a little "shine" after they have dried. They just look kind of dull. Suggestions?
Confectioners glaze or lustre dust/spray are the things that spring to mind first. depends on what look you are after?!
HTH
AFTER I DUST MY FLOWERS I HOLD THEM OVER STEAM AND IT SEEMS TO BRING OUT A SHINE ON THE COLOR AND HELPS TO SET THE COLOR ALSO.
I can tell you what works for me. Put up a pot of water, let it boil. When there is steam coming up, hold flower over the steam for a few seconds, maybe 10-15 seconds. You don't want the flower to get wet, just let the steam get on it. It gives it a nice subtle glisten. I usually do it after I have dusted with luster dust. Obviously, if the flower is white, you can just do it " naked"! LOL!
Spray a little Pam in a bowl and use a brush to brush it on the flower. It will make it really shiny, though. hth
I always dust them with pearl/lustre dust immediately after rolling and cutting the gumpaste. I apply it with a small fanned out paintbrush that covers the whole surface.
It's probably my favorite decorating stuff!
