Just started working with edible images and not just loving the out come. I need everyones advice. First which side of the paper should the image be on. Also what icing does best to dissolve the paper? I have had a couple of good ones and then it seems like they are just staying like a sheet. My goal is to make wedding cake shaped cookies for my son's wedding rehearsal dinner as favors. Help.....you all amaze me with your knowlege
I haven't found a big difference using one side or he other.
Wafer paper is not really designed to melt into the icing. You use wafer paper *because* it stays in one piece.
If you want the image to melt into the icing, then you use icing sheets, which come in various shapes and sizes for both cakes and cookies.
to print on wafer paer use the shiny side of the paper, set our printer to glossy print.
No, the paper does not melt into your icing bcomming part of your design but you still add a border to it to hide the edges and make it look pretty.

Thanks so much. But this adds another question. What would you suggest when doing a sugar cookie to put a little saying on the cookie. Would you use the wafter paper or the icing sheet? I did the wafer paper and my daughter said when she bit into the cookie the entire "paper" came off.... I have to be doing something wrong.
I used a thin cut out of fondant. It dried nicely and with a little light corn syrup for glue the wafer stays on nice without bubbles or weird crinkles. I found this cool site for icing sheets...
