Is there something that makes a baby shower cake taste different than a normal cake? I ahve someone who wants a wedding cake, but wants it to taste like a baby shower cake? Am I missing something here?

Maybe ask her to be more specific?

The only thing your missing is your customers nievety. A baby shower cake is just going to look different to a wedding cake, unless of course she wants a perticular flavour of cake

Since you make cakes you should know which kind she had at the baby shower. Sounds simple to me.

I had someone ask for a cake that tastes like a wedding cake ? It had me asking the same question. He insisted that wedding cakes taste different than regular cakes. He's had my cakes and apparently they don't taste like Wedding cake ! lol

OMG I had that one too - about the "wedding cake flavor". IDK of any bakeries that make that flavor - for me its all the same recipes, just different decor. Maybe try to find out what FLAVOR that cake was.

Seriously, it always cracks me up when people would ooooh and ahhhh over "I just LUV the taste of wedding cake!" and I'd be standing there, laughing to myself, and thinking, "It's the very same cake that you eat at birthdays, anniversaries and baby showers!" I espeically like the ones who tell me "I don't like white cake except for wedding cakes." DUH! Same cake!

Just an idea, I've seen that lots of people seem to use creme bouquet for wedding cake frosting. Is this maybe what she means? Because I think of that as a wedding thing, but we don't get it here so that's why I've put it in that category. Or traditional wedding cake: fruit cake, RI?? Yep, I'd ask her, since your psychic abilities are failing you today

Okay, I'm one of those idiots.....when asked what flavor cake was MY favorite, the answer was "wedding cake flavor". Now I can make that 'wedding cake flavor'. Ha, ha.

Ok. Never heard of "baby shower cake" taste. That one is a first to me. I've also heard people say "I just love wedding cake". Like Debi said...DUH!!! it's the same as birthday, anniversary etc. just different decor .

Baby shower cake is the same as wedding cake - just use baby powder instead of cornstarch to roll out your fondant, gives it that hint of baby's bottom

Maybe it is the cream bouquet flavor. I'm gonna make a cake and take it to my dad inlaw,( the one who asked me about the wedding cake flavor). I will use it instead of vanilla, just to see. hmmmm

I just remembered one bride who called and asked me if she HAD to have almond flavoring in her wedding cake because people were telling her she had to. I told her, "I think almond flavoring is disgusting and have never made an almond flavored cake in 30 years. Darlin' you can have whatever flavors you WANT in your cake! Tell them they are full of it!" She laughed and said that was a relief to hear!

I have a low tolerance for those who play by the POSTA rules .... you know, those silly little rules that tell you what you're "posta" do and what you're not "posta" do yet no one has any clear reason on WHY they're doing them .... except that someone told them "you're POSTA do it that way!"?

I agree Debi, I absolutely HATE almond flavoring. Glad to know I'm not by myself It seems to be all the rage to some but I can't stand it.

i was ask the samething about 2yrs ago and i told the lady ok do you prefer similac,enfamil or soy base formula.taste.she look at me like i was crazy. and said what do you mean? an i said...well you want a cake that taste like a( baby) shower cake.

When this was said I gave her the look. She asked if I knew what she meant? I said all cakes are made pretty much the same way. I wasn't aware that one had a different taste, unless it's the flavoring. She then felt stupid. The groom said " You know they do taste different" I said " From my end, they don't. All of my cakes generally taste the same. You can always go to Publix and order from them. They may have the taste you want. As, I'm clueless to the difference. Hey I'm, game for almost anything."

I don't want to ever make anyone feel stupid. What I think automatically shows upon my face.

This subject kinda reminds me of the " is there a difference between cake recipes and cupcake recipes". I get that a lot being a cake decorating teacher.

Well, I think that most people believe wedding cake is white cake with almond flavoring. I've had people tell me that they don't want their white cake to taste like wedding cake.

My guess is that she might just want a yellow cake. I definitely wouldn't go with white...that is TOO wedding.

I get that alot! Around here that means the flavor. Traditional wedding cakes here in New Orleans have a Almond flavor (almond emulsion) vs. party cakes they have the Cream Bouquet flavor. Same exact cake but different flavors. HTH
