I have seen that but how do u use it with fondant and/or gumpaste? I am doing Colette Peters technique on ruffles and it's quite easy and so far so good... but I would love to know how this is used with fondant/gumpaste, etc...

I think Cookie4 got it right. I would cut out gumpaste circles and attach them to the cake. I wouldn't pinch the end, but maybe wrap it around the earaser end of a pencil and ruffle it that way. It instantly reminded me of the projects we did as kids where we used little squares of tissue paper to fill in a picture. We put the eraser end of a pencil in the middle of the tissue and wrapped it up the pencil. Then we just glued the bottom down. Of course this cake is much more sophisticated and beautiful than a project for children! Good luck!

thanks for the tip!! I have been using collete peters technique but today I am doing the top and that might help to make the center... I will try it...

I am very anxious to see your cake when it is finished. I LOVE the ruffle look. I was actually looking for an easy technique for a tissue paper look and this was great. Good luck on finishing the ruffles!

Can you explain how you did this?

dalis4joe Cake Central Cake Decorator Profile
dalis4joe Posted 12 Apr 2010 , 2:30pm

I will do a pic tutorial on this... when I finish it... it's relly easy... using a pasta machine... make the strips and scrunch them in one end (like making pleats randomly on the strip...

... glue them and place the toothpicks so they can hold the shape...

hth (for now) icon_smile.gif

Do did you get them to fit together so nicely. Did you place them in circle around each other? Did you do that on the cake? What did you use for glue?

I did strips... not rounds... long strips... and glue them with water... little water... just enough to make the fondant tacky... it takes time because u have to do it per strip sorta... after I did a row.. I have to wait until it dries and go on to the next row... if u do it too soon u mess up the one next to it...

Very pretty! Did you post a final picture??

Quick question - do the toothpick holes show? How do you make sure the little holes don't show?
