I have seen that but how do u use it with fondant and/or gumpaste? I am doing Colette Peters technique on ruffles and it's quite easy and so far so good... but I would love to know how this is used with fondant/gumpaste, etc...
I think Cookie4 got it right. I would cut out gumpaste circles and attach them to the cake. I wouldn't pinch the end, but maybe wrap it around the earaser end of a pencil and ruffle it that way. It instantly reminded me of the projects we did as kids where we used little squares of tissue paper to fill in a picture. We put the eraser end of a pencil in the middle of the tissue and wrapped it up the pencil. Then we just glued the bottom down. Of course this cake is much more sophisticated and beautiful than a project for children! Good luck!
thanks for the tip!! I have been using collete peters technique but today I am doing the top and that might help to make the center... I will try it...
I am very anxious to see your cake when it is finished. I LOVE the ruffle look. I was actually looking for an easy technique for a tissue paper look and this was great. Good luck on finishing the ruffles!
Thanks... just have the top to finish... that's tmo.. so I should be posting the pics tmo pm or friday am at the latest...
thanks to everyone for all the encouragement and help yoou have shown me here... {{{HUGS}}}
Just wondering how it went...can't wait to see pics!
Hi... ok... so not finished yet... but I will post a progression pic... just cause I know you guys have been there for me since I started this...
I got swamped these past weeks with cake orders so I need to put that on hold until I did the paid orders (hehehe... $$$)
but I left this week cleared... so I can finish all of it...
BUT surprise surprise... I am sick as a dog lol... I have a bad cold but I will work through it... I HAVE to finish this or I won't be ready for the show.... so here is a a pic of the work so far... lemme know whatcha think....
Toothpicks are to help the ruffle dry up...
Stunning!!! I cannot wait to see the finished pictures. I definitely am going to try this techique! You will be the hit of the show!
I will do a pic tutorial on this... when I finish it... it's relly easy... using a pasta machine... make the strips and scrunch them in one end (like making pleats randomly on the strip...
... glue them and place the toothpicks so they can hold the shape...
hth (for now)
Do did you get them to fit together so nicely. Did you place them in circle around each other? Did you do that on the cake? What did you use for glue?
I did strips... not rounds... long strips... and glue them with water... little water... just enough to make the fondant tacky... it takes time because u have to do it per strip sorta... after I did a row.. I have to wait until it dries and go on to the next row... if u do it too soon u mess up the one next to it...
so here is a a pic of the work so far... lemme know whatcha think....

I love this you did a great job!! I will definitely be trying this at some point .. maybe on my own wedding cake!!
I had a consultation a couple of weeks ago and the bride brought me the same photo you have been using. This thread has been soooo helpful. Dalis4joe your work is beautiful!

tmo I will have the pics of the finished cake... and by next week I will post the tutorial... I can't post it now cause I need to do a ton of extra stuff for the bridal show... but I promise.. next week... I will have it... I know a lot of people want to do the same design and if I can make it easier for them to do it... I'd be more than happy to do so
Very pretty! Did you post a final picture??
Quick question - do the toothpick holes show? How do you make sure the little holes don't show?
