Let me first say that it's kind of my fault - hubby told me to just not even bring it up, but what did I do? Bring it up, of course! But I just knew if I didn't, we'd get a frantic text or call in a few days to make sure I was doing it - and, after all, they did pay for our wedding cake.

My future sister-in-law, as nice as can be, but is the worst planner and will be the first to say it. I start asking about our nieces and nephews' birthday cakes a month in advance to urge her to start thinking about themes. Though in February, our niece's birthday party got moved up a week and I was told the week of and then the same thing happened with our nephew's birthday this month. After my second cake for her with less than one week's notice, I said never again...never say never, right?

She and my brother-in-law have been "going to get married" for two years, but life gets in the way. On Tuesday, we learned they plan on going to the Justice of the Peace to get married on St. Patrick's day. Yesterday, we're told they didn't get married with the JOP and are having a wedding next Friday! eek!

Thankfully I did a practice run last year to help her piece together her design wishes and let me practice making those designs. And it's just for 40 - not the original 100 or so it would have been for.

I just hope this week goes smoothly (while working full time and having to do extra marketing this week for my real job) and the cake comes together without a hitch. I am sad that I'm not going to be able to order SPS-I had planned on using it for their cake, but now don't have enough time to order it. I think I'll take the tiers in separate boxes and stack there-the wedding is quite far from where we are and I don't want my first cake to fall to be this one!

Thanks for listening to me! My hubby just says "you should have said no". Yeah right, they would have told my MIL and then she would be calling - then he would have changed his tune.

ugh! we have to keep the peace good luck! I know I dont do my best work with only 1 week to plan, the good thing is your design work is already done. that puts you half way there.

If you order the SPS from Country Kitchen today it would probably get to you in time for the wedding next Friday.

Make it really simple and buy (with a coupon of course ) one of the stands that lets each tier sit separately. You are a good SIL, plus it will keep your MIL happy.

An update: We get a text late on Tuesday - "ummm is there any way you can slow down on the cakes...trouble in paradise" Hubby gets mad and says no more cake ever! I'm trying to calm him down and find out what's going on. Turns out future SIL's mother wasn't comfortable having the wedding at her home after all. My MIL had been pushing to host it so the venue is changed and the date got moved to give her time to prepare for it.

But we've also learned they're inviting friends over family and MIL wants her sisters, nieces, nephews and MIL there if she's hosting. She's offering to pay them for the increase cost of food and I'm adding cupcakes because my cakes were already baked when we got the text. Now their tightly wrapped in my freezer. Thankfully with the Free Cakes for Kids program, we turned our small freezer into a cake freezer so I don't have to worry about them since they're all alone in there. And I'm so glad she caught me before I started making buttercream or, had she called the next day, filled and iced them!

But...now that we have more time, hubby has changed the design of the groom's cake since BIL didn't seem thrilled with going with the military theme. He's making a grill and wants to make a Coke can since BIL collects Coke items and loves to grill. Now I have to see if someone can help me by making and selling me rice paper or and edible image with the coke can image on it.

Oh, it's moved to Sat, April 10 so now I know I can make all of the little flowers. Whew - was kind of worried about being able to get enough made before!

I'm getting frustrated and angry just reading this...glad you are handling it better than me!

It's all behind me and I finally feel rested again - whew! Since they added more people to the count after I had already done the baking, I added cupcakes rather than rebake.

And this (I'm soooooo proud of him!!!) is my Hubby's first cake to fully decorate on his own. He learned how to texture fondant, how to use my airbrush, how to make and cut from his own stencils, etc! Now if he just learn to bake, make buttercream and filling, stack, fill and frost - he'd be set! But I'm very proud of him, nonetheless!

Of course, not everyone showed up, so the bottom tier wasn't even cut. I did the cutting was pleasantly surprised to find that the tiers came apart cleanly. I was expecting a lot of pulling and fondant sticking between the tiers, but they came apart like they had just been stacked. Yes, we did deliver it stacked - I was scared the whole trip, but it was fine! Hubby's cake did crack a little in the back because he didn't pay attention when I told him to tape the cake board down to the main board....men! It was really minor and no one noticed, though.

What mattered in then end was the bride and groom loved their cakes and my BIL was really surprised at what hubby created for him. It was really sweet!

They've been my guinea pigs - their kids are what got me into our cake decorating. They have four kids - I've always liked to bake and I made their birthday cakes. Then the older two started asking for more elaborate designs, so last year I was researching about fondant and found CC and have been hooked ever since! The shoebox cake was SIL's birthday cake and the Camo cake was BIL's. Now I got to try out my first wedding cake on them - I'm thankful for the opportunity and very thankful it went well!

Hubby's helped out here and there with structural elements or to bounce design ideas off of - and he always rolls out my fondant for cake covering (back issues), but he usually mumbled about how much time or $ things cost. Now, after using my tools to make his cake, he told my mom that he wished he had listened to me about certain tools and went ahead and paid the extra money to get better quality. He hasn't told me this himself, so we'll see then next time I want, I mean need, a new cake toy--errrr tool!

I also think that you all did a great job! It's nice that you all made the cakes together!
