My daughter is learning and tried to paint on a cake today. it's OK, but some of the letters are like blobs. She used clear vanilla with the color. Is there any way to remove the color? She tried to wipe it a bit and just smeared it around. I don't usually paint on fondant, so I'm no help!
You can try to remove the color with a clear drinking alcohol--gin, vodka, white rum, Everclear is best.
If the color has dyed the fondant pretty deep, then the only alternative is probably water. Hit the wet spot quickly with cornstarch and you may avoid a big shiny spot, but you might not.

I use vanilla mixed with my color too and I've had luck also using the vanilla to remove the color as well!
If all else fails, and depending on where on the cake the painting is, you could do a fondant plaque and cover the problem altogether. Make a few (they don't take up much fondant at all), and she could keep trying until it turned out the way she wanted it to.
oh oh i just read a tutorial on this earlier today:

yep i do exactly what the tutorial above says with my vodka i also go over the area again just quickly with a dry cotton tip just to dry a bit of the vodka off
