That is just unreal. Where would that "decorator" get the idea that it's normal to leave the boards like that? You've got to submit that to Cake Wrecks.

How could she possibly think that cake was okay? Even if you have never decorated a cake in your life, you have to know that's not okay.

Didn't the bride see pictures of this decorators work BEFORE ordering? There is NO way that this is what she has done before and charged $225. NO WAY!!

I for one don't carry frosting around with me--nor do I have a spatula in a holster to whip out at moment's notice. It also looks like the "new" picture is up on a turntable--got one of those in your pocket too?

The icing matches perfectly--humm.. how lucky!

No SANE person would deliver that to a venue --sorry--I've seen messes before but that looked like something that might have been done by Aunt Flo while Aunt Em went to the Goodwill to seek out a dress for the shotgun weddin'

The bride is very lucky she booked at your place. Many people would have just snickered and said it wasn't their problem, and let it go.

I'm usually somewhat gullible, but this story raises my skepticism level to new heights. I find I side with kansaslaura in this case. There are just too many red flags: leveling the humps + having JUST the right color on hand+ carrying a pocket full of tips next to your holstered spatula...?
I'm sorry, I just can't offer any kudos here.


(But if it were true, the decorator now has a good photo with "her" cake to add to her portfolio. )

Oooops! Didn't consider that she, managing a venue, might have supplies on hand at the site. And she does have pictures to prove her skill...There I go again. I've always said that I would have a terrible time on a jury: "yes, no, yes, I mean no... Guess that is why I generally keep my mouth shut.

But the fact still remains...A much improved picture for someone's portfolio.

Just wanted to add a note to this thread. Both of these cake photos have been removed from the OP's gallery.

Your Cake Central gallery is for displaying your own cakes. Posting a photo of someone else's cake for the purpose of berating their decorating skills is not the purpose of the galleries.

I agree that a cake decorator who also manages an event hall would have stuff on hand. I also use to manage an event hall and that was the commercial kitchen I used to do my cakes. So I always had stuff on hand if a cake needed fixing. Luckily I never had to save a cake, but was ready willing and able to do so if need be. so yes I can buy the story. But would like the OP to come back and respond. If not then I guess maybe it was a hoax. But the save of the cake is wonderful.

I really wish this was a HOAX, believe me. My mother's event venue is in a lower income area of Dallas. So we get a lot of bride's on a small budget. This means most of the time they get a cousin who took cake decorating classes once to do their cakes. Not all of the time but it is not uncommon for this to happen.

To kansaslaura~ I am sorry that you don't believe this story. Let me answer some of your questions. I decorate MY cakes at my mother's venue because it has a commercial kitchen. All of my decorating supplies are there. I order 5 gallon buckets of icing from Sam's to decorate my cakes. I had just finished a cake the day before and still had 3/4 of a bucket left. Plus the icing is white. The reason why the after picture is on a turntable was because I had taken the cake to another room to decorate it. I didn't want to take it apart and redecorate it in front of the wedding reception. I took it to a room near the kitchen because the wedding was using the kitchen. I took of a picture of the cake in the room before I took it back into the reception hall. I didn't want to take pictures of it in front of everyone. To tell you the truth the bride did not seem that involved in the wedding. She didn't even come to look at the venue before the wedding. Her mother came and looked at it and rented it. The mother of the bride got this ladies information from a friend. The friend knew her and said she did beautiful cakes. So I guess that friend owes her an apology.

So hope this changes your mind about this being a hoax. Believe me I really wished it had been too. I had another cake and cupcakes that i had to finish before the day was over. Plus the customer of the cake that I had made the day before had dropped her cake and wanted me to fix it. So me having to fix a wedding cake also was just another road block that day.

I believe the story (call me gullible or not!) I don't see the problem in believing it........1. I have all that stuff on hand where I decorate cakes
2. I also can level an already iced cake and reice it
3. I have no trouble matching white icing with white icing, because icing is white! lol

First and foremost I am sorry that the pictures are side ways. I tried to flip them but CC wouldn't let me.

@allforcakes~ I just built the icing up with an icer tip. Then tried to level them off. I was going to cut them off but then the cakes would be to small.
@Bunsen~Yes we can warn people about her.

@scgriffiths~a couple of people who had seen the cake before and knew that I was fixing came up to me and said the cake was dry. They said it didn't taste fresh.

To all of the CC'ers who don't believe that this is real I am sorry. I wish it wasn't either. I had to much to do that day and really did not have the time to fix a cake. However me, the mother of the bride and about 10 guests saw the actual cake before know that this really happened.

Yes those were plastic beads. She sprinkled them around the table
