I all , I was wondering how to go about covering cardboard or styrofoam with fondant . What is the food safe way to do it ? I have a Laptop cake in process and I'm at the screen stage in the process . IF i use cardboard , how can i cover it like that the buttercream doesn't make it all soft ?

Use a thin coat of piping gel on your cardboard so the fondant will stick to it.

According to my Wilton "Fondant and Gum Paste" class book, you cover the board in Fanci Foil (I would probably use regular foil or Press N Seal and then use piping gel to get the fondant to stick to the board. I have never done this but it sounds reasonable............... Not sure if you intend to wrap both sides or just one side and how that would work.
