I Have To Brag On My Hubby And His Awesome Gumpaste Skills!

I'm making a jungle themed cake for my son's first birthday and I started making gumpaste animals for it. My elephant's head ended up falling off while drying and my husband asked if he could make one, and then he made a rhino and a palm tree. Which I told him that the palm tree seemed so hard I wasn't even going to bother trying to make one (I'm relatively new to gumpaste too) but he tried anyway and he did so good! I'm attaching pics because I was really impressed with how good his animals were and (don't tell him ) SUPER JEALOUS of how well his palm tree turned out!! It was so much fun to watch him figure out how to make it work, thanks for listening to my bragging! :]
Thanks you guys! He said he didn't want me to post the pictures because he doesn't think they are that great but I told him for his first time ever using gumpaste he did so good! :]
Your hubby did an amazing job! You must be so proud of him. Now that is what I call team work!
*gasp*, he's a natural! And how much fun you both must be having working on your son's cake
He did great! I love the palm tree! Its better than any palm tree I ever made! We did the same theme for my son's first birthday, and those palm trees I made were a disaster. I had to re-make them 4 times (probably ended up being around 30 or 40 trees) because the stupid leaves kept breaking and falling off (stupid Wilton book gave me bad instructions). First shot and your hubby got it? Awesome.
So cute! My DH helps me sometimes too. Some guys are just naturals at it He did a great job, make sure he keeps at it. He really did do a great job on those lil' figures.
Yes JCE! I was SO jealous that he got it that fast because I've seen how hard it is to make the palm tree on here and like I said, I wasn't even going to deal with trying to make one! Too much hassle! The funny thing is he's not an artistic kind of guy, at all actually! So when he asked to help with the elephant it was very unexpected and then I ended up just watching him and telling him how to use the toothpicks for support and gum glue, the rest he figured out on his own! Y'all are so sweet to comment, I can't wait to tell him that fellow cakers thought he did a good job! I always brag to him about talented CCers are, he'll feel special hehe!
The monkey is my favorite. It's so cute! My husband tried to ice a cake for me once.....let's just say it's not as easy as it looks. Ha! Great Job!
What great figures he did. Love the tree too. Tell him that after this thread, you may have to contract him out!
The most helpful my husband can be...absent. I work better alone.
Wow! Great job by your DH. Love them all, but the tiger and elephant are my favs. He did a fabulous job on that palm tree! That man deserves a hug for helping you and getting involved in something you love.
I hope you don't mind that I've saved these for future reference. Their little expressions are priceless!
Thanks Rosa, that's actually one that I made! Butterpatty- He definitely got a hug! But I know exactly what y'all mean, when I made my first cake and worked hours on getting the buttercream smooth he said "I could do that, it looks easy" O_o so I handed him the recipe for icing and said lets see then! haha :] He realized he may have spoken too soon! He keeps asking what else he can make for the cake, but since I had all of the other ones in the pictures made I had to tell him that if we made any more we'll have to make a bigger cake!
I don't mind at all if you save them, btw! I was inspired by looking at gumpaste figures on CC as well!
Wow, he did SUCH a good job!! The two of you would be unstoppable! I wish my husband was interested in trying, lol.
I keep telling him we should open a cake business, but he's not that interested! although as I'm typing this he's making another palm tree!
LOL! I recently posted about my DH's awesome bow making abilities! Ain't it great when they get in there & are actually helpful! I just made a cake & there really wasn't a whole lot I needed an extra hand with & I think he secretly got his feelings hurt. So, I guess I'll need lots of help on my mother's birthday cake. ;-}
Wow! They all look great. My faves are the palm tree (of course), the flamingo and the crocodile. hehehe
Well done to your DH, he did a good job. My DH loves getting involved & I have seriously been thinking of getting him to try making something in gumpaste, your DH's work has inspired me to get mine to try as well.
hubby: thanks everyone for the amazing comments! its nice for someone to appreaciate something that you've spent so much time on.
You guys should get your hubby involved! After he started making the gumpaste animals I showed him CC and some GP animals on here and next thing I know he's asking if the cake can be a topsy turvy cake! lol I said "NO WAY!!" as this will be my first stacked cake and that's enough challenge for me for one cake! He was so disappointed I told him he could try a topsy turvy for my birthday cake!
They are fantastic! Great job both of you! My DH tried to help once to make a coffee cup (to be filled with marshmallows) that went on top of a christmas cake. After about 10 mins he gave up and has never touched gumpaste again! lol.
