Michaels has started carrying some of the stuff like that now. I know there was a post a while back with several links to online sources too......

Is there a way to make one myself or is it something I have to buy?

Also do you suppose the Pink Cake Box lady just has those on hand or does the customer request a specific one?

I've never used cake jewelry before....but they are ordering the exact cake (minus a tier) so I guess I better figure out what goes on that bow. haha.

i bet you could make one yourself if you want everything edible. You can use silver dragees and create one. they have many sizes of dragees. Look on 'the cakegirls' website. they have one wedding cake with the pink ribbon and bows that has edible brooches on them made from dragees.

I made the ones on this cake, but was not happy with the isomalt, I could not get it clear. Everyone still loved them - isomalt center, dragees all around the isomalt.

Does the customer want the brooch to be a keepsake for the recipient of the cake? She can purchase an actual brooch and you can hot glue it onto a skewer long enough to go through the bow and to stick into the cake.

Kitagrl, Jen Dontz sells some brooch molds on her website (Sugar Delites: www.jenniferdontz.com), if you want to make them. I think I've also seen molds at GSA. HTH

Kitagrl, I just saw your cake -- it's darling! You can't tell that you had any problems at all. Isn't it funny all the stuff that goes on "behind the scenes," and you're thinking, "Geez, why did I ever say I'd do this?" The first cake I did last year was a nightmare -- big time. The cake boards collapsed as I was trying to dowel them, and NOTHING was going right. I'm crying and my husband is just looking on. But I kept going and covered the darn thing in BC, and it looked okay in the end. But, you guys are WAY ahead of me. Haven't done a cake in over 4 months, but I'm doing one for a friend in a couple of weeks. (Keepin' my fingers crossed.)

Loucinda, are there any tricks to working with Isomalt? I saw Buddy use it on his show and purchased a bag a while back. Can you pour it directly into the molds? Thanks for any advice you have!

There are ALOT of imperfections especially in person... There are a couple glass-smooth perfect ones here on CC and I know I can do it...I just can't do it. Yet. haha.

This one I was stressed because the guy paid a good amount of money on it (see pricing poll thread!) and also drove 1 1/2 hours each way to pick it up. He had gotten a LV purse from me several years ago and wanted this one. So I wanted it perfect.... he picked it up but it was raining and I explained to him about the toothpicks I had to cut off the straps (so making sure nobody ate the straps) and warning him not to touch the straps as they were fragile, and explaining how the cake is two layers with a board between and how to cut it...so he never really complimented or said anything nice about it because I was trying to hurry in the rain.

Well as long as I don't get hate mail about the straps falling off the cake in transit I guess its okay!

I'm sure she'll LOVE it! (I think the ranting and ravin' go with cake decorating -- my DH can't believe some of the words I've made up. LOL).

Atemanli - you don't need to go into every single thread that you like and comment "I like...". That is then for Facebook.

Of course everyone has the right to comment on a thread and express their opinions, but by doing what you've done now you have filled up the first pages with a ton of old threads as when you do comment it brings it to the front pages and we have to browse through all that before we can see what is happening.

This is quite annoying.
