Today I used my new Kopykake projector on some NFSC and pumpkin waffles chocolate cookies. I tried to trace the design on the cookie with Wiltons Edible Markers. The only one that really worked was the black and that wasn't anything great. What does everyone use for edible markers

I was just looking at markers online today. I've heard good things about Foodoodlers, but I don't have experience with them.

I use Americolor. They've worked great!

I use ones by Americolor called "Gourmet Writer". I don't know if Americolor has different types, but I love these...the tips are like a cross between a marker and paintbrush.

I hate the Wilton markers, they do not work right! Try the markers by Americolor, I hear they are MUCH better!

I normally use foodoodler markers when i need to write on cookies, but they are too thick to finely detail for a projector. I am looking to buy the americolor ones for the projector.

luv2bake6, did you use the fine tip fooddoodlers? I think they come in 2 sizes. I have the Wilton, the Americolor and the Fooddoodlers and I found that the Fooddoodlers have the finest tips. I still would like the tip to be finer but they are the ones that work best for me. I wish they made a food safe pencil! I know that pencil is nontoxic but I don't feel comfortable using it. Has anyone used pencil to sketch a light outline on their cookie?

Yes, I have. I read in a decorating book about using pencil, as it is non-toxic. But like you, it made me uneasy using it. So I did a bit of research, and found that the graphite used is a "naturally occurring carbon that is both non-toxic and harmless" when ingested. I'm thinking the food dyes they use in the pens aren't any more "natural", so I started using pencil. I use it sparingly, though.

I occasionally use a pencil to sketch on run-sugar pieces...been doing so for about 6 years. No fatalities that I am aware of icon_biggrin.gif .
I mean if you look at the FDA approved ingredients in whole wheat sandwich bread icon_confused.gif !

Darn!!!! Literally just today i bought some Wilton markers to try out...but i guess theyre not so great ehh? That stinks!! I really wanted to try markers and my boyfriend got a me a giftcard to the only bakery supply store in town for xmas that i hadnt used yet. I wanted the Americolor ones but they were all out and not getting a shipment until next week and the store is about 45 mins from my house so its not really easy to just pop over when they get them in. Now i wish i had just waited and not bought the wilton ones

The information I got had to do specifically with the lead used in mechanical pencils, but I would think any pencil would be fine.

Thanks! I love their regular markers and so do my kids. These fine markers will be perfect for the projector.

I like the kopykake. Have only used it the one time. I just got it and have been so busy. My dh made a cardboard surround to keep the daylight out and I could still use it in the kitchen. The is the 300. works better where its dark

I want the Kopykake projector sooooooo bad. My husband just heard me say this out loud and he thought I said coffee cake. He just yelled I want a coffee cake too!! (for some reason I NEVER make coffee cake for him and he absolutely loves it - why is that? - maybe I'm punishing him for something??) hahahaha! No coffee cake here and no Kopykake either icon_sad.gif

You would want to make sure the pencils use graphite, and not actual lead. Some artists pencils still have actual lead in the them, which is, of course, toxic.

Love the pencil idea! I have spent too much money on edible markers, can't believe a .10c pencil would have worked all along!

This is good to know! Being a draftsman by trade, I have TONS of the mechanical pencils around my house....no artist's pencils, though.
