So here's my question: If you could only have one or the other, which would it be? The Cricut or the Agbay?? I can only afford one big item and don't know which to get. Any opinions on this?? Thanks CCer's!!

I wish I could be of more assistance. I am struggling with a similar issue. Hubby wants to put double ovens in for me to help me get big wedding cakes baked faster but if he does that I will need a big mixer to make all the batter. He says buy both but I can only justify one big item at a time.

I know this wont be popular with all those people here who love thier agbay (and I am sure I would too if I had one) but I modified my large wilton leveler with uhmw "feet" and it works great. I took the agbay off my "need to buy" list after that. I do tort my cakes and have no problems using my modified wilton on them. It worked for me but might not be what you are looking for.

It depends on your needs. I love my Agbay since I torte my cakes. Even though baking and decorating is a hobby for me, the Agbay has saved me a lot of time.

Yup, I'm gonna agree with everyone else... AGBAY all the way! I am just a hobby baker, but the Agbay gets used on every cake and a Cricut definitely wouldn't get used that much. I can't tell you how much I love my Agbay.

Agbay... you will use it on every cake you bake (not just those you torte, you'll also use it to level), whereas the Cricut, while I LOOOOOOVE mine, isn't going to get as much every day use.

Thanks for all the good information. You just helped me decide.

Circut is coming out with a machine made specifically for cake decorators. Provo Craft modified the insides and made the cutter deeper to cut thicker pieces of fondant and sugarpaste. I saw it demoed at the Conn Cake Competition. The price will be about $350. It premiers on HSN at midnight on April 14. (Check the schedule, I may not be accurate.)

I'm a hobby baker but I'd go for the Cricut. Why? Because I can level and tort without it (maybe not as easily but it's a hobby not a business) but I can't do cricut things without a cricut. I'm sure it's just personal preference and really what YOU want to do most.

Oh and I have the stuff to modify my wilton leveler too but so far haven't needed it. The small Wilton leveler works fine for me so far, no cakes over 10".

I'd get the agbay leveler first. I can't imagine life without it! and I use it on every cake.
I saw somewhere that the new cricut will be on HSN on April 1st
if you buy anything off of HSN, you get 3 or 4 easy payments!!!!
then you could get both. icon_smile.gif

Another vote for the Agbay. I have the Cricut. It's a handy little thing, but I don't use it very often. My Agbay is used on every cake, and I shudder when I remember trying to level cakes before I got it.
