Bottom And Sides Hard... Please Help
Decorating By Lazy_Susan Updated 7 Mar 2010 , 7:25pm by Lazy_Susan
Hi guys,
I bought a new oven and since then whenever I bake a cake the bottom and sides come out hard. Anyone know why???
Thanks
Buy a separate oven thermometer and test to see how accurate the new oven thermometer really is. If it's not the same on both, you probably need to get the oven calibrated.
Getting accustomed to a new oven is difficult. It takes time. I hate the very idea of having to do that.
BTW, I live in fear of having to replace my oven for this very reason. Since I first started making cakes, every cake I have ever made has been baked in this oven. The oven is the original one from when the house was built in 1969. We have replaced all our appliances in the past two years, except the oven and cooktop.
Good Luck!
Wow an oven from 1969 that's got to be a record. I wish they built appliances like they used to, now we're lucky to get 10 yrs out of them.
Ditto to temp. Could it be the way you are prepping your pans? I've noticed a difference w/ different methods.
The oven is a convection oven but I have yet to use the convection and use it as a conventional oven only because I don't really understand how to bake with the convection part. Also, I usually use parchment paper on my pans but this time I had run out and used wax paper on the bottoms and greased and floured the sides.
