I want these to be as clear as possible. I cant find any directions for this. I melted tried it two ways already but it has many bubbles on the bottom side so it makes it holey and dull looking however the top side looks shiny and bubble free. The first batch turned a bit yellow but i think thats because the temp went up too fast while i wasnt watching it, i took it off the stove at 360 degrees, then put the pot in cold water in the sink then poured it into my silicone molds with no pam( i didnt want them to be yellow) but they turned a little yellow anyways. The second try i watched it closely then at 340 degrees took it off the stove and put it in the water. these ones came out really clear but lots of bubbles still dull on the one side and shiny. please help!

Check out this thread in the MYOM forum:

Have you tried using regular plastic ice cube trays instead of a silicone mold? I would think that would result in a shinier surface. After unmolding the cubes, running a torch briefly over them should take care of the surface bubbles.

They are so much fun to make. I used ice cube trays. I poured..applied my torch to get bubble out then poured some more...more heat.. and no bubbles at the end. I got that advice from a CC on here. who made an engagement ring. I used her advice to make gems too.

here is the pic of her work.. isnt it the most awesome thing ever!! http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1548078

OK, I poured the isomalt using MYOM directions- awesome!- Crystal Clear and no bubbles- but OK, what's the best technique to get them out of the mold? I tried twisting the tray, like regular ice cubes- but they start to crack. Any suggestions? icon_cry.gif

Hmmm..not sure.

So far, I've only used cake rings as molds, and I found out quickly that the isomalt has to be removed as soon as it's cool enough to hold the shape. If it sets up completely, I have to take a hammer to it, no matter how well-oiled the ring is.

Depending on how large the cavities in the tray are, maybe you could lightly oil some pieces of aluminum foil, and line the tray with that? That way you could just lift the cubes out after they've set, and peel the foil off. You'd have to be careful not to crinkle the foil, tho...unless you want crinkly ice cubes. icon_wink.gif
