Can anyone PLEASE tell me what kind of frosting/glaze was used to make the cupcake on this site? http://www.cupcakerecipes.com/ I'm interested in the lavender cupcake at the bottom of the page. There's no way to contact this site; otherwise I would have. I tried various things in Google, like "poured glaze cupcakes," etc., but I haven't had any luck.

I think it's just such an outstandingly pretty little cupcake! Thanks for any help anyone can give!! icon_smile.gif

Poured fondant maybe? I've also seen a discussion on something similar yesterday. They put BC on the cupcake and nuke it for 10 sec - makes it melt nicely.

Poured fondant -- that much royal wouldn't be fun to eat. For that matter, the poured fondant is overwhelmingly sweet, too, but better than royal.

if that were royal icing, i would imagine it would be a tooth cracker to eat

Looks like poured fondant, not royal icing. Easy to make but messy. You could try just putting regular fondant on it. Just don't over fill your cupcake liners.

Most definately decorated using the Poured Fondant method.

As KKristy mentioned - cakejournel has a very easy tutorial about it - to follow.

Autumn Carpenter's book "Creative Cupcakes" has a good glaze recipe using chocolate or candy coating that gives the look you're wanting. It's tasty and easy to work with. But I tried it on some test cuppies for a baby shower and decided not to use it because the flat cupcakes looked sorta strange - guess I'm just used to seeing a rounded top.

here is one I did that's similar using regular buttercream that (like mentioned above) I just microwaved for about 10 seconds for a cup of icing. Sets back up nicely in just a couple minutes.

Did you try the cupcake glaze that is right about the photo, It looks like the recipe they post could give you that look. The recipe also tells how she does it on mini cupcakes unwrapped. This should set solid but be soft to bite into. Good Luck.

WOW!!!!!! Thank you all so much for the responses! I think I will try a poured fondant because that's probably what it is, but the melted buttercream idea sounds very interesting. I will try that too. I'm off to check out the link that KKristy gave!

I keep looking at that little lavender cupcake. It is so understated and I just LOVE it! Thanks again!

I saw the pic too!!!!!!!!!! I was obsessed with trying to make it and did..poured fondant was what I used...mixed in some ground up dehydrated peaches (this was way back when I was clueless) and it was a yellow color instead of lavender. Everyone else is correct...fill low or pick a non-doming recipe or u'll have to scoop out the tops..no fun!!

This flat, smooth cupcake must be the new "in" thing. There's an almost identical one in April's Ladies' Home Journal.
