Looking for tips on how to form/shape the brim of the hat. I just made one and the brim is too flat, couldn't find anything the right shape to form the fondant brim on. TIA
When I made mine I laid mine over my rolling pin. I have also read where you can cover the brim of a baseball cap and lay your fondant/gumpaste over the actual hat to shape it...hope this helps...if you have any more questions feel free to PM me
Thanks tranqlty, I was just thinking why not use a real hat. But I was thinking that when I put the fondant hat onto the cake it will sit on, the brim would need some kind of support even on the cake itself so it wouldn't just sink in the middle or crack?!
Once I attached the brim of the hat I put a few cake pieces under it that I had carved away from the sides when shaping...unfortunately mine cracked during the drying process but it all worked out...it just made my hat look "weathered"
I used a 50/50 blend - covered a real hat with saran wrap, let it dry on there and used it without supports. Worked fine!
