I posted this in a message and I am still getting requests, so here - in a little more obvious spot - the Cricut compatible gumpaste recipe:
OK, so we've been getting request for this from RBA, ICES and a few forums, so we put up a web site and you can just have it sent to you for free.
Go to
http://www.cuttingedgecakeart.com
and fill out the little form and it will instantly email you a PDF with the recipe.
Email or PM with questions...

Tobias, thank you very much for the gumpaste recipe. I was wondering if Gumtex could be substituted for the Tylose powder as I can't get it where I live.

Be sure to watch the next Ultimate Cake off...they will be using the new one on the March 1st show.

Judy - I noticed no one has answered your question...generally people dont like to use them interchangeably. Each recipe is usually suited to whatever strengthen is featured in it (unless specified). Tylose is a bit different - I love it. Have you tried to buy it online...the Tylose I mean? Thats where a lot of people get it. Global Sugar Art carries it so does Nicholas Lodge (on his site) (he is about 50 cent more expensive for the same brand). But play with the shipping and see where the true deal is.
Thank you so much! I've tried many times to use my cricut but I always get the dragging needle effect I really hope this works for me. I will owe you a large debt of gratitude!
We found that CMC works best - if there is a problem getting it, PM me and we'll look into shipping you some.
For those that have not heard: Jenn and I, along with her dad Mark and Miss Sheila, the lady that works in our chocolate room, will be on the Ultimate Cake Off on March 15 and we too used to Cricut, quite a bit actually.
So stay tuned ...
Tobias
Thanks for the recipe. I plan on trying it out soon and look forward to your review of the Cricut Cake.
Wow! Thanks! I just got my cricut, actually it's in the mail. I got the original personal one. So, mucho gracious.
You can get a whole pound of CMC on Ebay for less than $20.

What is CMC?
wrightway777,thanks for the info. I will look online for some but usually by the time shipping is added to something it costs a fortune to get things shipped to Canada.
judyj2 - Check out Golda's Kitchen - you can get a small container of tylose (cmc is the main ingredient, but I think they're the same thing) for 4.75 CAD
We buy ours by the case from CalJava - not sure if they ship to Canada.
We tried Tylose, but it doesn't seem quite the same, even though in theory they have the same ingredients. Maybe its kind of like buying store brand soda - they look the same and have the same ingredients, but they're just not the real thing.
CMC is SodiumCarboxyMethylCellulose - classified in Europe as food additive E466, and is a cellulose derivative. In the gum paste recipe it basically adds "stretch" to the gumpaste - when you add it in the last stage of the production cycle to the gumpaste recipe, it binds with the mixture and turns it from the consistence of royal icing to the consistency of fondant. The reason we say the GP has to sit overnight is that it takes a few hours for the CMC to fully work. After a few hours the gumpaste will basically appear to be rock solid and have to be worked to get its stretch and work on the cricut.
CMC can also be used as a drying agent - sometimes people that are not familiar with the process will tell you that therefore you have add less CMC to a gumpaste recipe in a more dry climate - this is not the case. The CMC in a gumpaste recipe binds with the moisture in the recipe, not in the air. If you don't add enough CMC to gumpaste you will end up with a sticky mess.

Tobias - Many Many Thanks for the recipe...one question though it says "add the heated shortening"...but there is no prior instruction as to how to get the shortening "heated" or am I missing something (havent had 2nd cup of joe yet). One question though and I ask this most 'humbly' even though they, Provocraft, have given (or let you borrow the machine) will your assessment be totally unbiased on your blog?
cant wait to see 3/15 UCO!
All - Oh I forgot if going the CMC route (or super gum) can be found on the "shall not be named S site" (PM me if you dont know what site I'm talking about) at least get the 4 oz for $5.35. They've got a flower paste recipe using Tylose that I'm going to try along with Sugarpaste gum (to help RI extension work) that I am dying to try out too.
Thank you for the recipe. How long do you let it dry on your cutting mat before you put it into the Cricut? Or is it good to go once it's rolled out.
Are you using the orginial Cricut for Fondant or the Cake Cricut?? I looked for Cake Cricut and what I found was it wasn't available yet...
I have thought about buying the Cricut for Cake decorating, but didn't know how much I would actually use one...
I recently tried modeling choc, in my expressions and it actully worked better than fondant or gumpaste.
OMG - I just tried my Personal Cricut with the deep blade housing and Satin Ice gumpaste and it worked. I am so excited. I still had to clean my blade after a few cuts but it looks great. I probably didn't wait long enough for it to dry.
I am going to try Tobias' gumpaste recipe. I'm so happy !
