Okay me again.....

I am trying to make a "bass" cake.....like the one attached....she used all buttercream! SHE IS AMAZING!! I have pmd her but no response and I am wondering how you would make the colors "blend" like they do and do you think she smoothed it after all the icing was on than applied the diamond pattern to look like scales? I do not have this pattern does anyone have any ideas how I can achieve this look without the pattern....any and all suggestions would be appreciated!! icon_rolleyes.gif

Thank you everyone!
LL

Hi,
I have never used airbrush or spray colors, but maybe that is how she did it?

Just an idea? You could ice the cake in the cream color that you see at the bottom and then airbrush or spray on the greenish color?

Sorry if I am not much help.

That bass looks like it was airbrushed. You could try the new Wilton sprays if you don't have an airbrush, but they are almost impossible to get a good control on them.

It looks airbrushed to me also. Maybe you could try pearl dust, luster dust or something along those lines if you don't have an airbush system. As for the pattern, I read a couple of others here used the back end of an icing tip to make the scale patterns on there fish. There are a couple more in the gallery to look at. Maybe PM some of them and they might be able to help you better.

Hope that helps!

It does look airbrushed.

you can also use the hot spatula method to blend. Put your colors on where you want them..take a metal offset spatula, dip in hot water, wipe dry and then run the warm spatula over the joining lines of the colors...the buttercream will soften and "blend"...
