receive the credit card details, you would be authorized to charge a
total of 7,500 USD ,deduct the deposit of 2,000 USD for your services
and send the balance of 5,500 USD to the translator to enable her take
care of some of our other travel logistics and also hire a Costar bus
for them to easy our movement on time.

You are advised to charge the credit card because the translator does
not have a credit card charging facility to put through these charge
on the credit card. Her account does not support it. Please confirm

I just got this e-mail today... I knew it was a scam before I got to the 2nd line. I can't believe that anyone actually falls for this! I responded to his e-mail telling him my fees would be $36,000 and it had to be sent certified check. I doubt I'll hear back from him/her since I don't accept credit cards!

Rotten thiefs.

I wonder if you followed through long enough to get the account number if you could trace it to find out who it belonged to? Don't they use stolen credit cards?


ETA, I just read Jan's link and....why would anyone send their own money and not mention that the credit card didn't go through? Are there really people that do this?

I received the same email. People are CRAZY!!!!!!

I have received 2 similar emails and phone calls to boot. The phone calls were through a relay for the hearing impaired. So I alled the relay service and found out that these people need to be reported to the fed. government.
They typically target people who offer services or items on the internet, ie: craigslist and other internet advertising. I wasn't offering cakes but Yorkie puppies through a paid newspaper advertisment, that also listed on the internet.
Obviously, they're scammers and I now include in my listings, SCAMMERS WILL BE REPORTED. I haven't received any more of them.

I think that originally the credit card charge DOES go through. And then the REAL owner of the credit card reports the false charge and it gets taken away, but by that time, you've already submitted your portion of the bill to their translator, or delivery agent, or whoever they're claiming needs payment upfront.

The scary part is....where do they find all the cake decorators? Do you advertise, or are you on Facebook? Who's checking us CC'ers out?! How are they finding you?

I got one of those phone calls too through the hearing impaired relay. I thought it seemed fishy. they wanted 200 cuppies and would send a courier to pick them up. I knew it then and said I was fully booked. They asked for 2 other weekends and I said nope, booked.

Some of them can be fairly convincing...I got one the other day that was simply a request for a quote for a wedding cake that sounded legit....English was not too bad at all.

BUT then when I responded with a simple question about the date and a few other details, she asked for a quote and "address to your location" which started to raise red flags...so I just said I was booked (and truly I was busy enough whatever weekend she mentioned).

It was just fishy.

I actually used to work for a relay service who provided the free internet relay, which is where they do all the scams. It was such a joke, the person that told you all that information can actually be fired and sued for giving any information. It has to do with the rights of the deaf and that they have the right to scam people, or do anything through the phone just as anyone does. But the thing is the people who abuse it don't need the relay service they are just taking advantage. I hated those phone calls and most of them are " I will send you a check in such and such amount and you will mail this much back to me" When I worked there they targeted a lot of craigslist type stuff. It can be really fustrating.
