OMG I'm so excited I discovered cake truffles tonight!! I was bored and wanted to try somthing new, so I thought I would give the cake truffles a world....and OMG everyone is right those are the best thigns I have ever eaten.

With one cake I made german choc. ones, turtle ones, and some with icecream in them. Its like 3 different cakes with one mix. They are so moist and yummy... the only problem I can't stop eating them icon_cry.gif

my husband wants them for his birthday instead of a cake lol.... I love this website thumbs_up.gif I wouldve never known about them if I wasn't addicted to this site icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks everyone who posted recipes for them on here.

Okay.... mushed up cake and icing and other crap added are NOT truffles. Call 'em cake balls, or call 'em cruffles..... but actual truffles they ain't!

I love cake truffles. I saw one website where they referred to them as Cruffles. I think the person is a CC'er. Congrats, isn't CC great? Lots of helpful people sharing information!

I call them cake truffles, too. My husband didn't like it when I talked about cake balls so he asked me to call them cake truffles. And I'm not sure how you can say calling cake balls truffles is like calling ganache poo...

I agree, I think because the are referred to as "Cake Truffles" and not "Truffles" it's prefectly fine. That way someone doesn't buy/eat "Cake Truffles" when they think they are buying/eating "Chocolate Truffles".

"Chocolate Truffles" are named after "Truffles" which are tubers that grow in the ground (Pigs have been used to seek them out in the past) because they resemble the tuber truffles.

So technically if someone ordered truffles they may be expecting tuber type truffles and receive chocolate ones. Chocolate truffles are so much less expensive. Truffle oil is what I use, one day I may buy a Truffle. Maybe.

I prefer to call them cake truffles, too. It just sounds nicer to me and of course they don't compare to actual truffles. But eh, people know what I mean when I talk about them and I don't have to call them balls which I only associate with testicles these days. "Cruffles" isn't descriptive for anyone who has no clue what they are.

Either way, call them what you like. But yes, they are quite delicious.

I never said "I" call them Cruffles, I said a fellow CC'er calls them that on their website. My point was people can call them WHATEVER they want. I mean who cares, it's very trivial to me to worry about what someone else wants to call what they make.

Edited to add "cruffle" links.

icon_smile.gif Hey that's OK. I was just clarifying because of an earlier post about it being "stupid". That there are a few nice cakers that call them cruffles. I personally call them Cake Truffles or Cake Pops (I really prefer putting them on a stick).

Nicoles0419, there is a multi page thread on cake balls with several combinations of cake and filling. I will look for the link and post it for you.
Another name you could call them is cake bites. We have a new cupcake store in my city that sells cake bites (named cake bites on their website) in addition to cupcakes.

This thread is making my side ache.... too funny! cake "testicles"... sigh... glad your "cruffle/truffle/balls" came out well. Just a thought - aren't Rocky Mountain Oysters a more appealing name for ..uh.. bull parts... anyway, how about Rocky Mountain Truffles? Cake oysters? ugh, this gets uglier and uglier!

Bcake~ can I ask you a question please? What did you use for your raspberry filling? I used a can of pie filling with a french vanilla cake. I used the whole can because I didn't think they were raspberry enough. But then they were too moist. I just wanted to see what you did. Thank you for your help.

I also made lemon one this weekend (vanilla cake, homemade lemon curd with white chocolate), chocolate mint (choco cake, with whipped Andes Candy ganache, with milk chocolate), cinnamon bun from the other thread. Lemon was by far the favorite! They were yummy!
