I was thinking maybe he thought he was being helpful too...until that last comment.

I would ABSOLUTELY make sure he did not get any more cake from me if I were you! EVER!

What an @$$. thumbsdown.gif

LOL, Jerky McJerkjerk! Lucky for you I majored in psychology ... I know all about people who have trouble expressing their true meaning. In your case, I understand that when you say "A tradesman .... tool", what you REALLY mean is "Thank you for your being a considerate and generous coworker, for consistently choosing to spend your money, your ingredients, and your time away from your family to make me free cake on a regular basis, asking for nothing in return, and in truth, receiving nothing in return from me or my lack of culinary skills. There is absolutely no need for you to apologize for not bringing cake this week, which I would have otherwise pounced upon and devoured immediately as I usually do. I am terribly sorry that your oven is not working, and can only offer to perhaps contribute financially to some of the ingredients (at the very least bring an occasional bag of flour or box of butter) when your kitchen is again in working order in the hopes that I might persuade you not to give up on this much-appreciated cake tradition. You MUST know how I love the cakes, no matter what I say, since I always finish off every last crumb of my slice and always come back for more the next week ... I assure you I am not doing this for the good of my waistline."

Yes, dear Jerky, your kind thoughts are not lost on me.

Sincerely, You.

Holy Snot!!!! That last comment .....wow, just wow!
I really like everyone's response on what to say.

I personally would next time cut everyone a piece of cake and then take his right out of his hands. (That's my nice response. My real response would get you put in jail. icon_razz.gif )

Ok, ok. I do think he's a twit but I also think it is a bit tongue in cheek - especially if he thinks he has a special bond with Mrs A and to be honest, it kinda fits our Aussie humour. It's not well received by Mrs A because she doesn't actually feel the bond with him - but if it was someone you liked it would just be laughed off and a snappy retort fired back. So in that spirit, I truly think emiyeric's response would be the best to put him in his place. It's the way you tell him that he crossed a line and needs to be more respectful.

I know the way I take humour often depends on whether or not I like the person delivering it. There's one guy at work that I can't stand and everything he says grates on me - yet if the guy sitting next to him said it to me I'd have a good laugh even though it was delivered the exact same way.

What an a$$. Ok, so here is what you do next icon_twisted.gif ........ Since he didn't like the way that you made all the other cakes then tell him there is only one more type of cake left to make that you think he might like. It will be special just for him and noone else. Burn a cake on purpose and ice it all pretty so he won't know until he bites into it. icon_wink.gif Oh and don't forget to put some kind of laxative into the filling. icon_razz.gif If that don't teach him a lesson then I don't know what will. What can I say, I am just a sick and twisted evil beotch. icon_evil.gifthumbs_up.gif

Anyone that ever says there is too much butter in their cake needs to be slapped, poked in the eye with a dowel, and had the entire contents of a Funfetti cake mix shoved down their throat. Dry.

LMAO

I agree with you, Melnick.
It's possible he thinks that last email was being witty.
However his audience, the OP, is not getting the joke. I wouldn't either, judging by the earlier comments he has made to her.

Did a little searching:
'Tis an ill workman that quarrels with his own tools. Don Quixote, 1696
-
I'm a bit blunt. The first time he made a crack, I would have said "If you don't like it, don't eat it."

last weeks cake balls - the sizes werent uniformed

the week before was a good old aussie sponge and he said there were too many fresh strawberries with the cream in the middle

the week before that was coconut cake and he didnt like the dark chocolate ganache

i admit that i do work with a bunch of ferals when it comes to cake but every single week the entire cake is eaten and im getting requests so it cant be that bad

im not decorating them yet just playing with the new KA I got and learning about scratch baking. i know not everyone shares the same tastes in flavour and yeah, feedback is good but for geez sake - this virgo is driving me nuts!

i feel like saying NO CAKE FOR YOU! icon_mad.gif

You are way to nice! Do you know how long it would take me to tell him where to stick his cake???

1. Make him his own special cake and make sure to put plenty of X-Lax in it. I am sure that he will be to busy in the Rest Room to make any complaints.

2. Make a box for suggestions. They could post what types of cakes they would like for you to make and then if he keeps posting negative comments, email them to everyone and let them know that you have been unappreciated and will no longer offer your services.

thanks all, you make me feel calmer. as Melnick implied, aussies tend to take the piss out of each other and usually its all in good humor but i dont have that sort of relationship with this guy so i feel its an effort to try to get along with him.

as far as serving everyone cake but him.... ive finally trained my office that im not their mother or maid so would hate throw out 6yrs of training out the window icon_wink.gif

and yesterday we bought a new oven so hopefully this weekend i will rejoin my 52 cake odyssey - maybe i should collect his weekly complaints and give them back to him at this years office secret santa with a packet cake mix

cheers
