A lot pictures are trade marked so we can't get edible images made from them, so I was wandering if this holds true with wrapping paper such as Little Mermaid? (I'm wanting to wrap the sides of a cake with it)

If a character is copyright protected, it doesn't make any difference what medium is used - they're all copyright protected.

That's why all the edible images, lunch boxes, pajamas/night gowns, t-shirts, pencils, cups, action figures, cake toppers, candles, etc. are licensed - because they're all copyright protected.

If you are not selling it though, it is fine!

Please check this out with another site. Probably one that is legally credible. I've been told two different things on this site. I've been told that if you're not selling it, it's fine, then I've been told that it doesn't matter if you sell it or not, you're not supposed to reproduce it.

To me it makes sense that if you're not selling the cake, if you bought the item you're making an edible image from then you should be fine. But you never know. I'm sure you'll be fine unless you have some kind of hardcore copyright attorney attending the party. But I'm just the kind of person that needs to know if I'm doing things legally.
