Whats the difference between a edible image printer and a regualr printer. Can I just buy a regual printer and put edible ink in it? Every edible image printer Ive found is expensive. Thanks

There are printers that are specifically for Edible Imaging, and there are also printers that can be fitted with the edible image ink cartridges. Cannon and Epson both have printers that you can buy (Regular printers) and then just order the edible Ink Cartridges. But be aware, these printers can ONLY be used for the purpose of printing edible images. You can't use them for both edible images and regular printing. You can never run a regular cartridge in this printer, or it will contaminate it, and make it non food safe. So if you go to Kopycake web site, they have all the info you need to get set up. You can also go here, and research the type of canon or epson printer you need and shop around for a cheaper price on the internet. But the printer you buy must be brand new, and never every have been used with the regular ink, due to the possibility of contamination. Then all you have to do is order the proper edible ink cartridges and edible image paper. The edible image paper you print on is all edible and comes in various sizes. The whole set up ink and paper can be pretty expensive, so you have to consider this in pricing for your edible images. Also these printers can be a little finiky, so some times you will have problems just getting a good image. This usually only happens when the black ink is low!

I've had an Epson nx200 that I bought at Target for about $50.00. You know that old saying about "you get what you pay for", well that was my case. When it worked good it was great when it was finikie it was horrible. I have spent hours tring to get ii to accept that there is ink in the *^">@# cartridges. Only to have it work great 2 days later (when I don't need it) The Epson printers don't have removable print heads so if you get a clog you might just find yourself having to buy a new printer. I'm saving up to get one of the Cannon Printers systems thru Icing images. Good Luck with your printer, you will love the effects you can get with it.

I have an epson and love it. I purchased refilable, spongless cartridges on ebay with out chip reset and just purchase refill ink. It keeps the cost of printing very reasonable. I've never had a clog but I do try to print something at least once a month even if it's just on paper.

Actually, there is not one printer out there that is sold that cant be purchased from a store and then you use the edible supplys for it.. Even the ones in the grocery stores just have a scanner hooked up with special software. The only reason you would purchase a printer from an edible company is warranty and support. There are companys out there that will go way out of their way to make sure that you are always up and running. If you are not, they often times will print for you until you are back in business. But the best thing to do is read the threads about what people think about their printers. Honeslty, the best printers use the best inks! I have started working with the gold series inks with canons and liked it so much, I am testing it on epsons and some of the epsons I have tested, I didnt care for and others I loved. But you really want to call a few companies and talk to them as the company you choose you should like and know that they will get you your products in a reasonable amount of time and will take the time that you need to answer any questions you may have.
