About $400.00, I'm told. Think I'm just going to stick with the regular cricut myself.

Saw somewhere (think on cc) that it is coming out in April & about $400.
I have written to their customer service dept. to get more detailed info - want to know exactly what the differences are to see if the $$$ is worth it...
will post if I get any more info!

I can't justify the $400. That's $150 more than a regular Expressions. I DO however, want the cartridge.

From what I have heard the cartridge is not sold separately, unless it will be changed after it comes out

I just got the expression and am not about to buy another one. I can find a lot of images on the internet for free to use with what I have. I may buy the mats so I don't have to take off the sticky stuff. If they're smart they will come out with markers with edible ink in them icon_smile.gif

I hope they manage to get edible markers. I don't want to go through all the steps to convert the regular ones. I agree I probably would buy the mats to so I don't have to take off the sticky stuff. Does anyone know how long the blades should be good for? I don't think I used mine that much but all of a sudden it is not cutting well at all - even after I get all the gunk off of it!

Linda McClure's DVD will teach you everything you need to know about using the cricut for fondant/gum paste. Link wouldn't post but her website is creative designs cakes dot com (no spaces between the words)

So, this cricut is not even available for purchase just yet. Is she using her regular machine using fondant and gumpaste? If so, why buy another one? I guess I may have to purchase the DVD set. icon_confused.gif

She has been using the cricut expression for a couple of years.

Does that mean she has been using fondant in the machine? WHY buy another one? The cartridge should be usable from machine to machine, hope this is the same when the Cricut Cake becomes available.

You don't have to take the sticky off your mat. Put a piece of waxed paper o the mat, then a thin, thin film of veg shortening on the waxed paper and then the fondant/gumpaste.

Hello, I found this site via a Google search.

I was lucky enough to actually use the new Cricut Cake when it was unveiled and I think I can answer some of the questions posted in this thread. (full disclosure: I work for a Cricut reseller not PC). I am learning a lot on this site to help me when our Cake demo machine is delivered.

Our Provo Craft sales person said:
-food safe / edible makers are in development
-the Cake's blade is taller, thicker and made of food safe stainless steel
-all current and future cartridges work on the machine
-PC will release their own colored gum pastes
-PC suggest putting the mat with the gum paste in the freeze for 30 minutes to ensure you have the same consistency each and every cut. Warm gum paste sometimes tears instead of clean cuts
-the inside of the Cake is all food safe and water resistant allowing it to be washed with a wet sponge
-blades and mats are dishwasher safe
-protective covers are on the keypad and cartridge mount to prevent flour etc from entering
-Cake Basics (cartridge) is only currently being sold with the machine
-Future machines will come in different colors (think KitchenAid)

I hope that helps answers some questions. While buying a new machine is a big expense the modifications made to this machine over a stock Expression machine may make it work the expense for some folks. Please let me if I can answer any more questions.

thanks
John

DARN, DARN, AND DARN AGAIN! I have barely unpacked my new expression and now this! I was afraid to use it for cakes thinking it would damage the machine. It sure doesn't make sense to have 2 machines, even if I could afford it.

I just went to the site and went thru the pre-order process. Even with shipping the total is only $305. I've been wanting a cricut, and now with the cricut cake I may just do it.

Since the cricut people are reading this forum. How about adding some print on it too? That would be sweet.

I went to a Norm Davis class on the Cricut a few weeks ago. To use the existing Cricut for gumpaste, first you need the deep cut blade and housing. The blade is readily available on ebay. To take the sticky stuff off the mat easily, use Goo Gone. Then wash and dry the mat and put a thin coat of Crisco on the mat. He uses a 80/20 mixture of gumpaste/fondant, but lets it dry a little before putting it in the machine. He said the gumpaste/fondant mixture amounts depend on humidity. Here in Florida I may need straight gumpaste.
One other suggestion was to do mirro image letters for a cleaner looking cut.
The post that said to put the mat in the freezer first is interesting and makes sense.
I haven't decided which Cricut to get yet, but the Cake Cricut exclusive cartridge might make the difference after I see what is on it. If I already had a Cricut, I would just get the deep cut blade and housing.
