Do any of you restrict the type of cakes you will or will not do? I had a client call and ask me pricing on doing a "boob" cake...only she wanted it to be nude. I had to say I was VERY uncomfortable with this suggestion and it led me to thinking about other cakes that would make me feel that way such as belly cakes or animal cakes. Just the thought of hacking into a "live" creature just makes my stomach turn. Do any of you just say no to these requests? Or do you do them and just try to forget about the inevitable cutting?

TIA

Cat

I do adult theme cakes, I have never felt uncomfortable. It is just cake, in fact it makes me laugh every time I make one. The last one I made in fact was strawberry with strawberry preserve filling, it looked like the cake was bleeding, but the client loved it and the everyone at the party just laughed, the title of the cake was 40 or bust..hahahah

I really can't think of anything I would say no to doing.

I was asked yo make very explicit female cupcake toppers. I had no problem, but once I told them the price they decided not to get them.

My job is to make the design. I never think of what they do after with the cake.

Yes, I do limit what I will do. I will not do "naughty" cakes and I characterize that as body parts that would need to be covered when you pick your kid up from school.

I have had requests for them but always refuse. I won't do anything I don't want my kids to see. This way it is easy for me to draw the line. It really has not been an issue for me, you just have to do what you are comfortable with.

I don't do "naughty" type cakes and yes I've turned down the few requests I've had for them.

Reason being......I want my kids and someday grandkids to look freely through my cake pic's without me or them being embarrassed.

I don't think we should have to do anything we're not comfortable with.

To each his/her own.

I won't do cakes with plastic staircases and plastic people either.

I will barely do a cake with a fountain.

I would say no to someone who wants a cake that I am not comfortable making.

i would say about the only thing i have said no to, is a cake that looks like a baby. I have seen some really well done ones, but can't imagine cutting into a baby cake for a shower.

As far as the naughty cakes, they aren't for everyone, but i have found that if you look at that stuff with humor there is money to be made.

I don't, but that's mainly due to logistics. I plan on it once I have a permanent home. Probably more risque though, than all nude.

There are very limited places to get the "naughty" cakes in my area, so for those that do them, the $ is a bit better. I work at a shop as well as do stuff on my own. At the shop, we do what we call "baptist boob cakes"-they have bikini's on! This way, we can put them in the glass case and not have to worry about the kids that come in seeing something and a mom having to explain it!

I don't think I've had a request that I've turned down. There may be one or two that I didn't really want to do so I priced them a bit on the high side-one actually went with the price! But I'm waiting for that one call that will throw me over the edge!

I won't do nudity-type cakes. Lingerie, yes.

I won't do the staircases and plastic people either.

I also turn down any requests for character cakes. Not because of copyright as much as I just hate to do all those stars.

I've got a hay bale wedding cake in my gallery that I'll never do again...at least not that same size.

Won't do horror/gory cakes.

There are a few people that I would turn down orders from. Not many, but a few.

Leahs, why no red velvet?

I think you should do whatever you are comfortable with. If it makes you uncomfortable to do a cake like that then don't. I've never done one, did have a request this week for one. I am considering it, but it's just boobs. I wouldn't do anything nasty like some of the cakes I've seen in the nauty section. ...because they make ME uncomfortable.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do icon_biggrin.gif

Hahahahaha I remember that one. LOL her sister is Mrs. Texas. LOL The face on the baker was hilarious. The bride was yucky- I remember she was eating chicken while getting her nails done and then asked for a fake nail to get the food off her teeth. Yuck!

Plastic staircases/ plastic people/ fountain cake, 1-layer sheet cakes and x-rated cakes. And that has nothing to with being judgemental, to each his own, just not my preference.

I would do a naughty cake if asked.

BUT - NO fountains, plastic staircases, plastic people, sheet cakes, or licensed characters.

I do have to have standards, you know!

I wouldn't turn down a request for a "naughty" cake. It would have to be something extreme to make me uncomfortable. In fact, I did a boob cake for my landlady (it's in my pictures) and I was so excited to do it. Her friend had just gotten a boob job after a mastectomy and they were celebrating. They loved the cake.
I also did a male version, uncovered, to leave in my fridge for my boyfriend's buddy that was housesitting for us. It was a quarter sheet with a very detailed male "member" made from rice krispies and covered in fondant. He ate AROUND the thing, perfectly outlining it. OH, and it WAS red velvet, lol! He thought it was hilarious. I'm game for any cake that doesn't use the fountains or staircases.

I love me some Rednecks! They are honest, straight up, hard working, and stay true to themselves! I deal with a lot of "Southern" snobs. But I love the Rednecks!
