I am hosting a baby shower at the end of September and want to make the cake. I made the invitation (see attachment). I would love to have the cake look just like the invite but dont know how to do the feet. On the invite the foot print is on vellum paper. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Mine didn't turn out that great....but I did a bct of baby feet onto a cake and then covered it w/stars. It would've worked a lot better had I had the right pic. You could easily do that a practice ahead of time.

You could also draw the baby feet on wax paper and trace and then fillw ith Royal Icing. Wait a couple of days to dry up and then carefully remove and place on top of cake.

Hi Stogz,
The invite is adorable, have you thought of using a foot cookie cutter for the imprint then filling it in with icing or for a more authentic look sponge painting it in so it looks more like a stamp? This way you could give it more detail. Good luck thumbs_up.gif

the sponge idea sounds good..if you want to try and duplicate the look you have on the invitation.

The sponge thing does sound cool. Do you have to use special coloring or something other then buttercream icing. Is there a special technique to get the sponge look? Sorry so many questions. I am new to this. This cake will be my first BIG cake that other then my family gets to see. icon_eek.gif

Make a template of the feet...a stencil..with the feet and toes cut out..lay it on your cake and "sponge" the color on...use a natural sponge..you can get them at AC Moore or other craft stores...do you have powdered colors that you can mix with some lemon extract to make your "paint"??

If you use a crusting icing, you could sponge buttercream footprints on in a different color . I sponged (on top of fondant) the First Communion cake in my photos. I'll bet it will work with crusted BC.

What about fondant presents with bows and accent them with little footprints all over them. Look in my photos at the presents that I did with baby faces. You could do the presents in colors that match the invite.
hope that helps!

How about cutting out your templates and then using the color icing spray or air brushing.

Hey Stogz,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you, busy making a tiered fairy princess cake for my nieces birthday, beginning to think I have to big of a family as there is no time to make cakes for outside the family, Oh Well I love them !

To sponge paint I use Wiltons 'Brush-On Color' and a natural sponge. For the footprint effect I would sponge off most of the color on cloth or paper towel so it sponges only a faint imprint as on your invitation. For the toes I would use my fingertip for the sponge as it would give the same imprint as a toe. Practice on a paper first. Wait till your Buttercream icing has crusted first before doing this.

Hope this helps.
