Wizard Of Oz Emerald City... Individual Pillars Or 1 Cake?

Hi Guys,
I need to make an emerald city cake, structure wise do you think it is best to do individual pillars then join them all together to get the emerald city look or one big carved cake? I am a novice so easiest way thanks!!! Dont have to transport it far but prefer to have it put together before arriving at venue in case it takes a bit of practice?
Is this to be a 3D structure or on top of a sheetcake? If it's going to 3D, I would love know how people would make the city perpindicular also.
If it were me, I'd probably make the individual pillars from RKT with skewers/dowels through the middle of each and cover them with fondant. Do you have free reign to do it however you need to ? I see it in my head as a two tier cake in rounds with the city on top and the brick road wrapped around and the foursome in siloutte at the bottom, then the poppy field piped or painted along the the second tier.

Debbie Brown has an Emerald City design (leave off the fairies and enhance the sparkle with lustre dust). I don't know if it would be big enough, but you could always sit it on a 1/4 sheet cake decorated with poppy fields & a yellow brick road if needs be. I can scan and send you the instructions if you would like.

I was thinking of this same cake, too! easily modified/added to, to make it the Emerald City! Gotta love Debbie Brown!!
Good luck, and look forward to pics of your finished project!
Hi all, thanks for your comments so far. bonjovibabe, that would be awesome if you could send through the instructions!! my email address is (mod edited).
That image looks great!. I hadn't thought of doing it a bit more abstract! I was thinking I would put it on a sheet cake with a yellow brick road but maybe a tiered cake as suggested would look a bit more 'designed'.
Thanks guys for ideas and advise, keep it coming!!
doing a carved spiral cake with the yellow brick road winding around the cake and up to Emerald City would be pretty cool

I used green colored rock sugar swizzle sticks in my cake to represent the emerald city. I don't know how to post a picture here yet......but hopefully my link will work.
