Never tried this so was wandering if this will work. I bought some molds that are used for chocolate. (mermaid shapes) Can I use gumpaste in them? If so, do I need to do anything to the mold before I put the paste in? Should I make them solid or hollow and how long drying time? Appreciate the help on this.

Hi Amy:
Yes you can use your chocolate molds for fondant, gumpaste, or just about. If you decide to use your molds for those things then I will tell you what I do. I lightly grease my mold then wipe it down to remove the excess. Any type of grease will do. A little bit of the spray oil will do. then just pack your mold with whatever you are using the gumpaste or fondant should come straight out without a problem. If it starts to stick after repating the process just re-grease. it's very easy. Hope this workls for you.
I use pam spray and then wipe with a paper towel. Press the gumpaste into the mold, rub your finger around the edge to remove the excess, then turn the molded pieces out onto a cornstarch-dusted surface to dry. Drying time will depend on how big the piece is and what you're using.
