Hello everyone! My friend just asked if I would make his girlfriend a strawberry cake with chocolate icing and chocolate ganache for her birthday. I have never made a strawberry cake and I don't like strawberries so I haven't tasted one either! That being said, do you know of any really good strawberry cake recipes? I usually prefer making scratch cakes but if there is a WASC or box that you can recommend I would appreciate any and all advice! Thank you!

I just made the "Strawberry Layer Cake" recipe on Wilton .com:

18.25oz white cake mix
1/2 cup sour cream
4 egg whites
2 TB oil
mix all above ingredients on high 2-3 minutes,
reduce mixer to low and gradually add:
16oz thawed frozen sweetened strawberries - pureed

The picture is a little deceiving... next time I will definitely add a little pink color to it. (It wasn't pink enough for me.) But it tasted great and was very easy to make.

search marthastewart.com, I think I remember seeing a recipe on there. Otherwise, I just folded in a cup of macerated strawberries to my yellow cake at the end....HTH.

I like to use the WASC recipe. I usually double the batch and use one box of white cake mix and one box strawberry. I then use strawberry yogurt in place of the sour cream, and add about 10-12 tablespoons of strawberry preserves. I also add a small amount of strawberry extract into the flavorings. Turns out really good, and people love that there are 'real' strawberries in it. I don't tell them the strawberries come from the preserves and yogurt LOL!

Thank y'all! Do you think it will taste ok with chocolate icing? That sounds like a strange flavor combo to me...

I just made two wasc recipes (the original by Kakeladi and Denise's version that adds oil and extra liquid) using Betty Crocker Strawberry mix and YUCK!!! I have used both recipes many times with other flavors with beautiful results. For some reason both cakes came out heavy, sticky and didn't rise at all...don't know why!!! So beware!
