Hi everyone, I am just starting out learning how to decorate cakes, hopefully with a view to go into business some time in the future. I thought i'd start with cupcakes and as my wedding is coming up I decided to do a Cupcake Tower. I found a great photo of this Cupcake and I love the way the fondant pattern has been placed on top of fondant, but I cannot find a cutter anywhere that would match this. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
With the color difference I would guess that it was either stencilled on ivory fondant using white frosting or RI or that it was done using a textured rolling pin then mabye "painted" white using a roller to hit just the top layer. Very pretty!
If you contact the decorator, either through her blog (scroll down) or Flickr page, she may be willing to give you more info.

I would definitetly try to contact the decorator. Sometimes they are willing to share secrets to help you out!
That's a beautiful cupcake by the way!
I am starting to decorate cupcakes too. When and if you find the technique used will you share it? Thanks
Thanks everyone for all your help. I will definitely contact the decorator to see if she is willing to share her technique as I think it is such an elegant pattern. Thanks again for your input, I only came across this site the other day and the information here is fantastic, don't know how I ever lived without it
It looks to me like the decorator has used a textured mat and then used a large round cutter to match the size of the cupcake to cut out the fondant. It is then placed on the cupcake. Most of the decorator mats are quite large so you should be able to cut out quite a few cupcake toppers from each rolling.
It really is a great idea and one I plan to use soon.!
