Hey guys,

Just getting started on my sugarpaste flowers.. and I wanted to know what the most common cutters that we use are.. everyone's favourite modelling tools and the cutters..tried to do a search and it didn't take me any where.. I've made a few roses by hand but I want to see if I can get it so much better with the tools..

I'm debating JEM for the modelling tools and maybe Tinkertech Two for the cutters?

I'm looking for a general consensus on the cutters.. I'm thinking 5 petal cutter, rose, carnation, lily, leaves, daisy, daffodil, etc.

I was thinking about the wilton 21 piece set (just because it would have so many of the basics) but then since everyone seems to think that everything they make is poor quality I'd rather not waste my money on something that's important... any suggestions would be appreciated..

going for price, comfort, ease of use, quality, etc. icon_biggrin.gif

I like the Jem 5 petal rose cutters. I have several sizes and they're all great.

I have the Wilton set. It's got some smaller blossom cutters that are very useful. The rose petal cutters that come with the Wilton set are too small for anything, and the leaves are also smaller than I prefer. Unless they've changed the Wilton set since I bought it 10 years ago, instead of modeling tools it comes with a couple of wooden sticks.

I've been planning to buy the Jem sets but my budget keeps getting in the way icon_biggrin.gif

I have the Wilton modeling tool set that comes in the clear plastic case. It's fairly useful.

I also like Studio by sculpey clay tools, for leaf cutters and veiners and for the metal ball tools.

I have the PME or FMM (I think) 5 petal cutters in like 6 different sizes with a few leaves and the calayx.

I'd say buy the cutters/vieners for a few flowers then wait on the others and order as you need or want them. Get a few to play around with to see if you really enjoy it. I'd also order the vieners and other parts of the flower (like centers or leaves/sepals/calayx at the same time.

I know I've read that the metal tools are great to use, but so far I just have plastic Wilton and plastic PME or FMM tools and haven't had a problem with them.

You also want a celboard and some cel foam. icon_smile.gif

I'd write them and ask them what the sizes are. By looking at the other prices of their flower cutters I can't see that they'd be very big for that price, though I could be wrong?

Texas

You changed your avatar.

I'd recognize that cheery face anywhere. icon_lol.gif

I second cel board with grooves for the wire. That is hands down the best purchase I made at ICES.

If I had a choice I'd buy the bigger one. I bought the smaller one. It works, but I can see how the bigger one is better.

And yes I decided since my cat wasn't a kitten any more I'd go with something new. icon_smile.gif
