Oh My God Oh My God Oh My God!!! What Am I To Do?

I work in a ministry and today brought a cake for work. All my colleagues thought it was beautiful and tasted great, and the head of my office thought we should give a piece to the minister, so we did. I handed it to her myself.
But then on my way home I feel my stomach starting to 'act up' and now I'm terrifed that it was the cake and that I have given the minister and all my colleagues (including those from the neighbouring office because they got the left overs) a quesy stomach
I can't go to work tomorrow. I can't face them. I'll have to quit my job, change my name and move to the other end of the country.
This has never happened before and I often bring cakes to work so it's just typical that it had to be today. I feel terrible But at the same time this is all so much of a nightmare that I can't help but laugh. I know my mother will laugh her a** off when I tell her!
Wait....what kind of cake was it? Was it something that needed refrigeration? Raw eggs in the icing?
I agree with Mensch unless it was left out to go bad then I doubt it was the cake.
It was hazelnut with peach mousse and caramel filling, no raw eggs anywhere. It's been in the fridge all day and stood out for only about 20 minutes before we ate it.
I want to agree with both of you that it probably isn't the cake, but what if it is? It does happen... I know I'm in for a sleepless night, and wont feel better until I've spoken to my colleagues tomorrow.
i was told most cases of food poising and what not usually take 24/48 hours to come out, sooner if the food was really bad, i personally dont think it would of been the cake.
Ohio has the poopin' pukes going around right now so it's possible Denmark has it, too.
Nothing to do with the cake at all.
Nah it wasn't the cake. Nothing harmful in there and food borne illness takes longer to develop geneally. Creeping crud is everywhere.
Creeping crud is everywhere.
I have no idea how to translate this, though I think I can guess what it means
Thanks all, I do feel better now.
Yup..agreed..It's not the cake..You probably had a case of the upset tummy coming and that just started it.Cake will not make you sick unless like others have pointed out it had raw egg or fillings that could spoil but they would have to be left out for more the 20 minutes for it to go bad.Food poisoning takes about 8 hours to set in once the intestines start to process the food.Don't worry anymore!!
dont panic, until find out that every one else wasnt feeling well after eating the cake there is no reason to get worked up about it. theres enough stress in life to worry about the "what-if's "
Yeah, it takes 2 to 3 days for something you've eaten to make you sick. (Unless you've accidentally drunken sour milk, that hits much sooner!) Unless you had a cake with perishable ingredients and you left it sitting in your car in the sun for 6 hours and then served it, chances are very slim of a cake making you sick. The high sugar content inhibits the growth of bacteria.
Even though I think food poisoning probably takes 4-6 hours, I doubt it was the cake if it had been refrigerated. You probably have a virus. Feel better.
Got any leftovers? Just give your husband, boyfriend, neighbour etc. a piece of the pie and see what happens in a couple of hours......
Don't worry!!
YOU ARE PREGNANT !!!!
Aaaaarrrgggghhhhh And then That would be something of a miracle; The Immaculate Conception. You can start worshipping me now.
No, kidding aside. It turned out no one else had become sick, which was a huge relief. I know you all told me it was highly unlikely that it was the cake, but I couldn't stop thinking 'what if?'
I didn't get much sleep last night so my eyes are a bit heavy, but I told me colleagues and we've all laughed about it.
And though I am always careful about hygiene, this scare will make me even more careful. Thanks again for all your reassuring words.
