Hi everyone
I just go to the circut website and saw they have a new cricut for cake decorating ???? cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but I just got my cricut and everything I need for using it with gumpaste, I wish I knew this sooner 
I am going to buy a cricut next week and I'm glad to see this post before buying. Has anyone tried this new one?

franazmom3, can't you return the cricut you bought? if you've already used it, perhaps you could sell it on craig's list to some who does not want to invest the money in the cake cricut. This could be a lot of money for someone if they are not sure this is a good investment for them. just a suggestion.

Don't be upset, you have everything you need to make cakes with your Cricut. Although it's cool they have seen the response to using the Cricut for cake decorating and made a specific machine, it doesn't discount using the original.
The main differences are that there is more coverage/protection over the control/button panel (kitchen use) and the blade and housing that comes with the Cake can go in the dishwasher. And the mats are already prepared for use. Linda McClure helped them design the Cake Cricut, since she brought the original idea of using the Cricut for gumpaste to the public, so that's cool. But with an estimated $400 pricetag on the Cake and it not being ready until April, I'm not the least bit upset I have regular Cricuts and SCAL for decorating, they work great! Andrea

I still think the regular Cricut Expression is better. You can have 2 separate sets of blades and mats and still use it for both paper and Gumpaste. The rollers just need to be moved off to the sides and then can be put back when wanting to cut paper. The new Cake Mats can be used in the Expression and then you don't need to wash off the adhesive as they are all ready to go. If you have a Cricut already don't be in a rush to sell it so you can get the Cake. I still think it's better to have a machine that you can have the option to use it for Scrapbooking AND Cake Decorating. It's just another way for them to make more money by convincing you that you need to have 2 separate Cricuts because you might Cross-Contaminate.

I could not agree more! The color is pretty, & it will be nice to buy the mats, but no need for a "special" Cricut

Heres the link I found that tells you the difference between the two machines. I am saving for mine, so how hard is it to switch things around to cut gumpaste with the expression?
Also, the Cake will come with an exclusive cake decorating cartridge (not sold separate). There is a preview of it on the Cricut site.

I just watched to video from CHA - Provocraft seriously needs to invest in someone that knows something (ANYTHING!) about cake decorating!!
Looks (and sounds) to me that you will be able to buy all the other attachments - blades/mats/cover etc seperately. I already have an expression so I'm just going to get the accessories when they come out.

Yes you let it dry out for a few minutes...not too long as it won't be flexible enough to apply onto the cake. I use a deep cut blade(on 4 5 or 6) and you have to remove the stickiness from the mats..or wait and buy these new Cricut Cake ones. You need to move those little rollers over to the sides and cut the gumpaste so they don't roll over your gumpaste while cutting. It has to be rolled out very thin...with shortening rubbed on the mat first to help it stick to the mat.
OK - I am sorry to hijack this thread, but I must hear more about this Cricut. I know what a Cricut is, and I understand there are a few threads on CC regarding the new cake-specific one. However, I have never heard of using the original scrapbooking Cricut for cake stuff.
I would appreciate hearing a little bit more about how this is done. Do you need to modify the machine to accommodate gumpaste versus paper? Any special attachments to buy so it can be used for gumpaste? How do you go about using it (in a bit more detail than what's given on page 1 of this thread)? Is this machine a "puncher" for designs, letters, etc. Plus, I see the new cake one will be able to accept frosting sheets, but I guess the original scrapbooking one wouldn't because of using non-edible colour/ink on something that's going on a cake? Or does the Cricut even have ink in it?
Thanks so much for any tips. I am very interested in getting one of these (the non-cake one) but I don't want to waste my money on something that I may not use (or be able to use without a rocket science degree!)

I agree that if your already have a cricut the cake one would just be over kill, at least imo. The only thing that I can't help but wonder about is the cartridges, I would think that you could mix them between all the machines but when you think out it if they really wanted to make the money then you would think they would make it so you couldn't. Make sense, sorry I have had alot of coffee tonight. Does anyone know if you can use the original cartridges in the new cricut cake?
In the video I saw of it the mats were the exact same size they just have different markings and no adhesive. They don't have the housing yet, just a prototype but i have the deep cut housing and blade and it cuts the gumpaste perfectly when set at 4-6 depebding how thinly i roll it out.
