I'm baking samples for a bridal show.......tons and tons and tons of samples! I haven't counted yet, but I think I'm on my 10th or 12th pan so far. Almost done. Icing is next.....ugh! icon_smile.gif

10th or 12th pan? Wowsers. How many samples are you taking? I cut my samples into 1" cubes and put them in lidded souffle cups. If I make 300 samples for a big show (1K attendees) I usually have leftovers.

Oh no, maybe I'm making too many! This is my 1st show, so I am winging it. I figured 1000 samples. There are supposed to be up to 1500 brides/grooms coming, so I panicked and didn't want to run out but maybe I'm way overdoing it.

Do you just cut the cake in the 1-inch cube with icing on top? I have the soufle cups. Not sure if I need toothpicks as well for them to get the cake out or just let them use their fingers......what do you do?

They toss them back, use a finger, tongue, whatever. Usually they hang onto a fork from a caterer.

1500 attendees, certainly no more than 500 samples. And I think you'll still be passing them out to the vendors at the end of the show.

Made a 9 x 13 cake for the family, tonight. They didn't even let me ice it - it's half gone!
Tomorrow during the day will be the many dozens of cookies for the apartment house. Next week is meal delivery week.

Okay, good to know. Since I already have all the cakes baked, I will just leave the ones I don't use for samples in the freezer for future tastings. Always good to have some extra cake on hand for last-minute tastings. I'm learning lots with this first show! I think I probably ordered too many flyers too. Guess I'm overly anxious and optimistic?!? LOL! I also have 9 display cakes. I was worried that was not going to be enough. Maybe I'm okay for those. I just want to get as much traffic in my booth as possible. I'm sure I'll learn a ton on this one and will know more what to expect when and if I do another one.

I finished and delivered my niece's cakes for her son's three birthday parties. The theme was Max and Ruby (?) who were new to me, and took a little research.
Three dozen cupcakes for the kids' party tonight.
10" for the big family party tomorrow
6" for the immediate family party at Chuck E. Cheese on Sunday.
Can you tell this little guy is an only child?????

I'm working on a cake for fun. We've been slammed with rain here on the West Coast for the last five or six days. I'm going to make a bright obnoxiously orange and yellow sun on a 10 inch round and bring it with me to a place where I volunteer tomorrow. I promised them an "Unbirthday Cake".

WoW Tootie --a 1000 samples!!! I admire you.

I'm here! Been a very busy month for me but finally slowing down with some easy orders. Finishing up a 2 tiered zebra striped cake and have another order tomorrow for a 10" cake with a huge cupcake on top made from a 6" round & 1/2 ball pan.
Easy to do and I think they look cute.

Planning for Valentines Day if anyone has any new & exciting ideas.....

Baking a gazillion cookies for Valentine's Day. I'm 28 weeks pregnant, so I decided to not advertise this year thinking I'd start slowing down a bit before the baby (#3) gets here. No such luck... I am SLAMMED from now until late d-day!

Right now I have my cake filled, iced, ready to go... minus the FBCTs that still have to go on. Those are in the freezer. Anyone else go into super panic mode wondering how it'll turn out? I've only done a few... so I'm still not too confident with them yet.

This cake is for a friend of a friend. I've never done a cake because of word of mouth before. I'm kind of excited to do it, but its a little bit more pressure, haha.

Leah - The last full week of each month, hubby delivers food to an apartment house of older people. It's a local charity like 'meals on wheels'.
The weekend before delivery hubby and I bake dozens of cookies for them. They appreciate the food, but go mad over the homemade cookies. They make requests for old-time cookies they haven't had in many years, and the next month we make them.

Just got done w/ two of three teirs for a ballerina cake ordered by my 6 year old niece. She has me more woried about her cake than any I have ever done!LOL. She want it 3 different shades of pink, 3 different flavors all in a specific order, a ballerina on top. The shoes have to tie up to her knees, she must have a tutu and her hair is long in a ponytail - and get this, needs to go to the left side! I wonder if she is going to want me to do her wedding cake?! I watched part of the telethon for the Haiti victims - Breaks my heart. Courtney Hayes-one of the American girls still missing, is from my town. So sad. Anywho, can't keep my eyes open. I am going to finish the rest of the cake in the morning. DH is going to take my 2 year old squirrel hunting in the a.m. so I might get something done! Unless my 4 year old or 17 month old decide they want to "do cakes." [[[[yawn]]]] Have a great weekend, y'all!

Hi all I'm just browsing tonight getting some ideas for the next three weeks of cakes. I went to Sams today to pick up somecake boards and was told that they can't sell any cake supplies from the bakery anymore has anyone else had this happen? Also maybe Leah can answer a question I posted in the forum but didn't get any answers from can I mix fondant and modeling chocolate and if so what is the benefit? I thought I heard Buddy on Cake Boss say he was doing that on a cake this past show and was just wondering about it.
