"ROTFL..... I used a box mix baby as my base.... now everyone is telling me I cheated at the baby contest CUZ SHE WASNT MADE FROM SCRATCH!!!! "

"Well I thought it was funny lol"
Ha - thats funny!
So I'm wondering.....would the scratch actors be paid a higher salary?
they get paid the same, but alot of people dont use them in thier films because they find them to DRY!~!!!!!!!
Oh am I on a roll or what!!!!
Well, I am SUPER offended by the test tube babies talk! I had to have fertility treatments, so I am offended! (not really)
I tell my kids that their father wasn't in the room when they were conceived, but I was thinking about him And they Loooooove that, since they're at the age where the thought of anything related to conception is super embarrassing.
LOL too funny.
I have an IVF niece...it's funny because she's a red head....and that's funny because both my brother and SIL are brunettes and we're Portuguese....not really a Portuguese trait.
So we tease her and tell her the lab techs must have added a little "Irish red gene" to her test tube.

Hey, don't joke, if you're in Boston the Irish is in the air! It probably got into the tube by osmosis.
Don't you hate when you are trying to make whipped cream and you accidently make butter?
Or is that just me.....

That was one of the lessons they taught us in culinary school...Never walk away from your whipping cream. I also learned "never walk away from your sugar as it's cooking" the hard way.

lol hey, you may be right about that!
... I was wondering when the whole in order to make things from scratch you must first create the universe BS would pop up too.
HEY - I'm offended!
I grind my own flour, churn my own butter, gather the eggs from the henhouse... (note my siggy)
I also use cake mixes sometimes.

So does this mean that people with hip replacements are no longer "from scratch" since they now contain "artificial ingredients"?
Yes Cee Tee...that's exactly what it means! They are DOCTORED!!!
OH SNAP! *ROFL*
yes I was addressing you and any one else that would imply something similar. This is word for word what you said in your op "Isn't that kind of cheating your clients?"
It is my opinion that implying that box cakers are cheating their clients is really rude. I would never say to one of the amazing and professional cakers on here that use boxes that they are "cheating their clients." I would think if you were not wanting to separate yourself and therefor creating grief that you would remove the implication that people are cheating clients. I've been on cake central for over two years and have grown to love the suggestions of all the ccers that use mixes as well as scratch bakers. We are all equal and no one is cheating anyone.

Jamie and CeeTee, you are killing me!!!

It was a question. If you don't think you're cheating anyone then that's fine. I wasn't implying anything and I don't know why people get so bloody worked up. If I'd said "that's cheating your clients" then it would be rude. I didn't mean it in a rude way at all and if you knew me you would know that. But if you choose to take it that way then that's on you...not me. I was curious to hear what everyone thought about it and was just projecting my own thoughts. It has no reflection on anyone's integrity or equality. I don't think I'm better than anyone else and just because I asked a few simple questions everyone seems to think I think I am.
Holy crow folks...calm down! It's only a piece of cake for cryin out loud!!

Yes PLEASE! I'm soooo over it!
Sally, don't sweat it. I remember when I first realized that some bakeries used mixes and didn't bake from scratch.....I was pretty shocked too.
I know exactly how you feel, you don't need to defend your words at all. If someone wants to read more into it then you intended well, that's their problem.

That's halarious!

K...sorry bout that. I just had a moment of weakness and I let it get to me.
yes *shaking off this topic and my suprise at someone not knowing how many professional box mixers are out there* There is alot of info on CC-great place to learn of all this stuff.
You shouldn't be surprised tho. I'm very new to this game. I've only actually had 2 paying clients so far because I just finished school not long ago. I also don't know anyone else who does cakes except my classmates and they all do scratch cakes.
Are you an actual pastry chef then?
Well, I've never been to culinary school and the only job I've had in the biz is as a grocery store decorator...so techinically, no I don't qualify for a toque. But, I have been cooking, baking and decorating for 24 years. I do a lot of online researching and a lot of experimenting. Plus, if there's a cooking/baking gene, I have it. My mom used to make everything from scratch, including grinding her own wheat into flour and making the peanut butter we put on the bread she baked with it and my great-grandmother owned a confectionary in Pittsburgh.
My dream is to one day own a cafe/bistro and patisserie.
And to beat Bobby Flay in a carrot cake throw-down.

we need to get on here and get Bobby Flay to do a throw-down with you!
I only think people are snobs when then think they are better then someone else..... and when certain things are said that are causing some one to go ....... you know?
After reading pages and pages, I've not come across one single post where it was overtly stated or implied that scratch bakers are better than mix bakers, or vise versa.
I honestly wonder why box makers often have the perception that scratch bakers are looking down at them.
ETA: Didn't realize we this topic has gone the comic route now. ignore me.
